Hi all,
I'm a 23 yo male who graduated last June from UC Davis with a BA in Sociology. A little unfocused in school, my GPA suffered, and I barely made it by, barely. Now, living in Orange County and working for HealthNet insurance pushing paper 8 hours a day, I'm strongly considering going back to school for nursing in hopes of being a nurse practitioner. I've been looking through these threads for some direction.
If anyone can please help me, I'm in desperate need of a career change, not just to change my own life, but to feel the satisfaction of helping change someone else's too.
If someone could share some possible steps to take in my position, all is welcome.
Thanks!!

Welcome to all nurses! :balloons: You can find lots of info and support/encouragement here. You may be interested in our male nursing forum and male nursing student forum:

An obvious first step would be to talk to someone at the nursing school(s) in your area about what prerequisite courses you would need to qualify for their programs, and what they look for re: GPA, etc. Any prereqs you need to take would be an opportunity for you to pull up your GPA and make yourself more competitive as an applicant. :)
You may also want to talk to the education department at a local hospital about opportunities to shadow working nurses to get a clearer idea of what "real life" nursing is like, if you don't have any experience with that.
Best wishes!
