Bachelor of Nursing in Sydney (UTS, UWS or ACU?)

Published

Hi there~~

I am a Canadian student interested in studying Nursing in Sydney.

I searched up on the internet and found 3 universities that offer the 3years Bachelor of Nursing program:

- University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

- University of Western Sydney (UWS)

- Australian Catholic University (ACU)

It's hard for me to decide which one I should choose~ They all look similar to me... I am looking for realistic and practical studies, so not research and theory based studies~ Also, I really don't want to take english and physics coures, since they have nothing to do with nursing.

Are the BN degrees of these 3 universities internationally recognized?

cuz I want to come back to Canada after I graduate.

Can someone please give me the pros and cons of these universities?

Thank you! =)

also, had you researched the possibility of transferring after a couple of years if need be?

Out of those UTS probably has the best reputation, but visit the campuses and see what you prefer. (I was going to go to UTS until I actually went to Usyd and met the staff there.) It all depends on where you want to and can afford to live, if you go to UWS the rents are significantly cheaper in western Sydney but you're further out from the city and beaches. Pretty much the only thing I know about ACU is from our new lab demonstrator, who says that they keep accepting more students and that they don't really have room for them.

All the courses have to be written to meet the Australian competency standards, so it's not like you can miss out on much that's really significant. Good luck.

I'm an undergrad at UTS and it certainly has the best reputation between the three you've listed. One of my tutorial leaders this semester has just transfered over from ACU and with what she's said and some of the media reports of late.. I'd be skeptical about applying there without some series research/interrogation of the faculty. A lot of ACU students have had problems getting registered post-graduation because while they met ACU pass standards, the didn't met the state registration criteria. You can imagine what a disaster that would have been!!! Apparently (and this is hearsay) ACU Sydney is poorly organised and somethings have turned disastrous - like not being told where clinical was!

I'll sing UTS's praises because I'm their student and I'm doing a degree that I love desperately. The labs are totally stocked just as a normal hospital 'ward' only in miniature. We have a bunch of "nursing Ann's" that breath, cough, crackle, have a pulse and BP and so on that are great to practice on, though no substitute for the real thing. We do clinical every semester for increasing periods of time as you progress through. & there's a good mix of subjects from clinical, science through to law, ethics and research. Plus, there's the choice of two campuses (city of 'bush').

That's awful! Especially when you consider that the government is funding this and should be regulating this kind of thing. Grrr...

Watch out for this one, Ku-ring-gai Campus is NOT a short walk from Lindfield station, it's ages! They lie! :lol2:

Very, very true. However, I drive (thank you mother for letting me use the other car) and there's plenty of free parking at KG! Also, there's a free shuttle bus for UTS students that goes between the city and KG via Lindfield station. I'm not sure how often it runs, though and I hate relying on public transport. Also, the Shorelink buses (public buses for the Kuring-gai Shire) come down to the KG campus, to, and I assume that they go to Lindfield station.

lots of information/encouragement on this post so far - i love it!

any students here from QLD - Griffith Uni perhaps?
