Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I've been searching for a topic regarding APU's MSN-FNP program, and did not find any. I found a lot for ELM program and not the traditional MSN, so I thought I'd start one.

Anybody applied for the MSN-FNP program at APU? Or any current or past students that can tell us more about the program? I applied for the traditional MSN-FNP program at the main campus for Spring 2014 and I'm still waiting for an acceptance letter. I spoke with the MSN coordinator and she said that they'll try to have their decision by the first or second week of October.

Sorry that came off poorly. I was in a hurry to write a response.

Luckyshamrock22, Did I read right? you are currently a BSN student, but, you've already applied to the FNP program? No offense, but, do you think it is wise to jump into a FNP program without having any experience as an RN? Does APU allow that? Most schools require a year of experience (at least) before an RN could enter an advanced practice program. Again, no offense, I just think it is a bit scary that you might be working as an advanced practice nurse, without having any experience as a RN... That experience at the bedside is paramount, in my opinion... Good luck to you!

i know this is an old thread, for those of you who are now taking the msn program at azusa, what's the schedule like? do you make your own schedule? do they have saturday classes? i got admitted for the spring2015 term but dont have the sched yet

jfj0710,

I am also starting January 2015 and curious about the scheduling and how it will all work. I will be at the IE campus. Any current students out there?

Hello, I will be starting the post master FNP program in Jan 2015, main campus. Still awaiting the informational packet with the schedule of courses and name of my academic advisor. Would love to hear back from anyone that has gone through the FNP program. Anyone planning on starting a facebook page for 2015 cohort FNP/ELM?

Oops I am a year late. Entering Jan 2016. But on that note, can anyone in the program share their experience with Azusa's master program? Thanks!

Hello! I am very late too. I have been accepted for the fall. Is there anyone here who can give me some tips or share their experience of the program? Thanks!

Hello,

I know im late to the thread but i just graduated from apu with my msn fnp tgis past saturday.

I must say i loved it. They work with working students.

I worked part time in ER.

I went to school evenings once a week.

Clinicals once or twice a week depending on what the preceptor says. There are no saturday classes.

All classes are either mondays or tuesdays.

Its a difficult program but you guys can do it.

Took me 3 yrs because i got pregnant and i had to slow down. Usually us 2.5 yrs.

Any questions just ask away.

Good luck you guys!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Did you do the ELM program, or were you already nursing when you entered the program?

I am also planning on starting APU in the fall, however I got into another accelerated ABSN program that is so much less expensive and some friends who are nurses have urged me to save the money and just get my BSN first at the less expensive school.

I would also love to know more about scheduling and being able to have a family. At what point in the program did you get pregnant and how was it?

Did you have Sunday classes or clinicals during the program? I know the ABSN part is intense and I won't have much time, but I'm hoping I can travel one weekend per month to see a sick family member.

I actually went into the ADN to BSN program there on 2012.

Got into the msn fnp program on 2013.

Been a nurse somce 2009.

I got pregnant on spring of 2014 and had my baby dec 2014.

So i was not even half way.

With the help of my husband and my sister i was able to finish school. With a baby is very difficult but not impossible. You just have to make sacrifices.

There are NO weekend classes.

Only weekdays and most are mondays and tuesdays. Some weds. I went to the azusa campus by the way.

Clinicals it depends on you preceptor but most are weekdays.

Wow. Congratulations with everything. Your career and your family. I'm glad to hear you were happy with the program.

Are you you happy now with being a NP? Is there anything you wish you would have known before?

It's really difficult for me because I feel I am choosing schools with very little information. Did you have guidance in choosing this program? Did you take out loans and do you feel the program was expensive? was the religious or Christian aspect heavily emphasized?

Thanks so much for posting here. Trying to keep my questions to a minimum. I have so many!

Does APU provide preceptors for clinicals, or do you have to search for your own?
