Azusa Pacific University (APU) ELM MSN Spring 2023

Published

Hi guys! I didn't see a thread for Spring 2023 and so I decided to make one! Looking forward to connecting with you all.

Good luck guys! ?

@MaryP

Thank you so much for responding. OMG this sounds like a great program. I'm glad that their is so much support among each other and the professors. Also the mistakes they made. How many tests for math? How long is the total time amount for the program? I'm definitely going to apply.

I'm only in the first semester and we have one did one. It was basic test only a several questions. I know there will be other test for like Pediatrics which I heard may be a little hard, but they are really good with helping and remediation if you are struggling and there so many helpful resources you can search online that also helps. The BSN part of the ELM PROGRAM is only a year and a half. After that, the master specialty is go as you please. Can take a break but I heard it's a lot of writing and mostly online. I'm sure you can finish in like 2 years with 2 courses a semester But you can take longer if you want.

And how about the other courses? How does time breakdown? Do you feel like you are able to adequately prepare for exams and study? And how much time do you personally spend a week on the curriculum?

@MaryP

Okay! that's good to know I'm glad. Congratulations on working on your first semester too. Okay! now I understand which is good because you can be working and doing your masters. The math okay which makes sense because you have to give the right medication so you won't harm someone.  Thank you! Also I wanted to know how was your process when you was applying?

I got accepted in 2021 and am currently in the ELM program, if anyone has any questions let me know! Good luck to everyone ?

Hi I am applying for this Spring ! and I am trying to find as much info from previous applicants. What were your stats? and what questions did they ask in the interview?

What is your schedule like? are classes Monday-Saturday ?

I'm considering applying for the program. How do you like it? What was your background? Are there other options for EMSN close to Los Angeles? TIA

Hi! I recently graduated from APU's ELM program! The program is pretty intense as it is only 18 months, but I felt that it did a great job at preparing me for the NCLEX (passed at 85 questions on the first try). The program was solid, but found that it had quite a few last-minute inconveniences ie needing to get clinical onboarding done within 2 days, waiting until week 8 to get a clinical placement etc etc. Your schedule will change each semester, some semesters we had 2 days of clinical with 3 days of class, sometimes we had a day off during the week with 2 days of clinical and 2 days of class it just depends. Classes are a combination of in-person and zoom.

When you join the ELM program you will be receiving your BSN, and if you choose to you may get your masters in education, NP, or clinical nurse specialist. Basically a 2 for 1 special (I don't think the masters portion is advertised much). The ELM program has a few locations including San Bernardino, San Diego and Monrovia campuses (when you apply you will be asked to rank them based on your preference). I found that the Monrovia campus was the most impacted. I attended the San Bernardino campus and had a very small cohort. I think they had trouble filling in space because some of my classmates were given the option to start a semester early (our class had 17 people.)

When accepted I had my BS in Public Health (I graduated a few months before applying), experience as a CNA and Hospice volunteer. My undergrad GPA was 3.85. From what I can remember at the interview I was asked about the experiences listed on my resume, 3 strengths and weaknesses, a challenge I was faced with and how I overcame it, what I would give up if admitted to the program, if I'd experienced any ethical dilemmas and how I reacted and If I had a good support system

Best of luck to anyone applying to APU!! 😉

Congratulations and thank you so much for the detailed response!
