Average wait time for ADN programs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there! I'm new here and getting ready to apply at my local community college for the ADN program. I did alot of reading yesterday on these boards and found out that there is waiting lists to get in! Wow...I didn't realize that! I guess that will give me time to get all of my non-nursing courses out of the way. I am in Texas...actually the Houston area and wondered if anybody had any experience and knew how long the wait is down here.

Thanks,

Shannon

I'm in Dallas, and we don't have waiting lists. I've heard waiting list can be 2-4 years. It all depends on the school, and the number of applicants.

Good luck :)

I'm also in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and the competition here is fierce. Make every effort to make as high of a grade as you can in your pre-reqs. I'm done with all of my prereqs. have a 3.62 g.p.a., did fairly well on the entrance exam and am awaiting a letter for the third time. At the college where I want to go, they have 100 spots and receive nearly 400 apps. Don't be discouraged, just do well in your other courses and tackle all the potential schools when the time comes. I know I'm not giving up. :) Good luck!!

Around here the wait is basically long enough to get the pre req and co req courses out of the way so that once you actually get into the Nursing program you do not have the extra and can focus on the Nursing classes.

So about a Year - year and a half I would say. I know I was officially put on the waiting list last May and I am tentatively starting in September.

Thanks for the information! I found out that the school that I want to attend does not have a waiting list!!! But also found out after reading these boards that the school that I want to go to is not that good either! I'm stuck between a rock and a hard spot though! I work a full time job, have 2 kids and a husband that works offshore and I'm SCARED TO DEATH that I'm not going to be able to pull this off! I've been wanting to go back to school for about 10 years now. I have to have an evening program. I plan on getting all of my pre-reqs out of the way before starting so hopefully by next fall I can start. Again, thanks for all the info and good luck!
