Australian NCLEX pass rates?

World Registration

Published

HI! I am an US citizen seriously considering getting my BSN in Australia. Does anyone have any idea of the NCLEX pass rates for Australian students? Does anyone know if Australian BSN programs are similar to those in the US? Does anyone know about how difficult it is to come back from Australia and get licensed in a particular state?

Thanks!

Carter

Joeldew,

Have you kept up with your former American classmate?

Alas, no. We were all mature aged students who went our separate ways after completing the course.

Many Nursing Faculties have International Advisers whose role, inter alia, is to assist and guide international students.

Perhaps, it might be worth your while to write to several schools outlining your concerns/needs. In your email, outline your intention of returning home post course and as such, you need to complete certain subjects to meet your BON's requirements. Some universities may fashion the program to meet your needs without compromising academic standard and/or registration.

Best of Luck

Thanks Joeldew!

Joeldew,

just thought I'd give you and any others interested an update. I did move to Australia and have been studying at QUT in Brisbane. Overall it has been a positive experience. I will graduate in June 2015. I will probably stay and work here while I sort out US course requirements, etc. I'm also considering continuing my adventure by looking at other overseas options for work. Coming here in some regards may have complicated my nursing career, but it has been an experience that few (especially at my age) get to have.At least I want be wondering what it would have been like if I had not taken the opportunity.

Thank-you for the update

Indeed, it is very inspiring that you did not settled for the path of least resistance...

Perhaps, you may wish to document your experiences here, particularly in relation to the nature of your nursing program, to assist other (potential) students.

Best of Luck.

Hi @ccampbell66 I would love to hear what your experience has been since graduating. Congratulations by the way. I am currently in the application process for using schools here in CA, but am extremely interested in going to Australia. I have the same worries about being able to come back to work. What have you learned? Thank you!

Hi ccampbell66,

Just wondering how you went with getting registered in the USA? I am an American/Australian citizen that went to QUT (same years you did, actually!) and am in the process of applying through the Colorado Board of Nursing. I've applied with the CGFNS and CO Board, yet to get an answer from either. I ended up doing electives and placements in Midwifery and Paediatrics just to help my odds in getting registered in the US.

Thanks again :)

Hello

My name is Ann and I recently completed my bachelors degree in nursing from Australian Catholic University. While reviewing my options in the US, I came across this post.

After reviewing this post, I was hoping if someone can provide me any advice or share their thoughts on what would be an ideal option. I am having a difficult time getting approval of NCLEX in California because I don't fulfill some of the BRN requirements (specifically I lack OB/Peds theory and clinical hours).
