I am studying the Diploma of Nursing in Melbourne. It is an 18 month course recognized within Australia.
After graduating, I would love to move to Toronto, ON and practice as a nurse. I believe that I will need to register with the Ontario College of Nursing as a registered practical nurse (RPN) before I can use my qualifications and I am wondering if I need to do a bridging course so that my qualifications are recognized.
My course includes medication endorsement and I do placement rounds with aged care, mental health and acute care and after graduating I am an enrolled nurse (EN) by Australian standards.
I am wondering if you have any information about what course I would need to do, if I am able to work as a personal support worker or do elderly care with my skills while doing a bridging course for income and the best way to go regarding bridging courses so that I can work as a RPN in hospital settings.
I am eligable for a 2 year working visa however, I dont have PR so will I need to get sponsorship or a student visa?
I know this sounds complicated but I am trying to plan ahead so I am not disappointed when I graduate if I cannot use my diploma.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you!!!

Many provinces are struggling with nurses having difficulty in finding jobs. What 2 year working visa are you talking about? IEC?
Only the College can decide if you need to complete a bridging course and if you come over on the IEC you can work anywhere but within the healthcare profession without a medical. Usually the LPN courses I know off here in Canada are 2 years so not sure if the 18 month course will meet requirements
