I am graduating end of April from Michigan. I have already filled out the application for the licence to take my NCLEX here. I would then have to transfer my licence. I am freaking out from all the posts about lack of jobs. We are moving in June and I am really worried about not getting a Job. If anyone has advice on what i can do to probably have a job ready before I move there. I am interested in the ER. Any advice on what i can do before hand to possibly have a job before i get here. What hospitals to apply for and where i have some chances. Thank you in advance!

The two big systems in Austin are Seton and St. David's. Seton has a nurse residency program for new grads you could look into. There is also Baylor Scott and White which is smaller. good luck!

Austin is a very tough market for new grads due to having multiple schools in the area churning out new grad nurses several times a year along with being considered a very up-and-coming, "hip" place to live. The pay in Austin is some of the lowest in Texas. To secure a new grad job there, you will want to have your license passed, either in Texas or in Michigan. I don't know if Michigan is a compact state, so you will want to check that out and see what needs to be done to move your license to a Texas license as soon as possible.
You will need to apply to anything and everything, not just ER jobs, which will be few and far between as well as heavily competitive. Apply for those, but also apply for any other job you see that will take a new grad, including LTACHs, nursing homes, home health etc etc. Look at the towns outside of Austin as well. You will have an easier time with them than with Austin proper.
If you have the option to stay in Michigan for a year to work, that is something worth looking into.
