Just wondering who else is waiting on acceptance for Fall 2009 for ACC? I am about to go crazy waiting till May 1st!
I'm doing the onsite option, but I will share what I have heard..
After the CEC program started in the Fall of 07, I have heard some bad things from students that had switched over to onsite. They said the lectures sucked and alot of people were failing out. Granted, these same students failed AGAIN, so take that advice with a grain of salt.
As for the online program, I have a friend that was with me onsite all the way until 4th level, and she is currently taking her final class online. She LOVES it! She told me that the online instructors feel like the onsite ones try to pile too much information onto the exams and are too tough on us. With is 100% true! She also said that the exam grades were better she had ever seen a class get. I heard from another classmate that the online students get really great study guides and other things that we don't get. Had I known all this, I would have gone online..too bad it's too late for me.
I know this isn't first hand advice, but it's something..Good luck on your decision.
Thank you, CrxTech. My biggest concern about taking online is that it looks like in Level 2, you have to drive out to CYP and since I live in South Austin, I'm concerned it could take me more than an hour to get there depending on traffic.
Are you onsite at EVC? If so, do you like it? Another question I have is what times of the day are clinicals usually scheduled?
I am at EVC, starting summer school tomorrow and level 4 in the fall. I really like it. It's not easy, but it is really rewarding.
I live in south austin and I wouldn't want to make that hike to CYP, especially in traffic. But if it is only 1 day per week, it would be do-able. In level 2, the only labs we were required to go to was when learning IV's. We got that done in 2 or 3 days. Your most heavy lab days/learning will be in level 1. I know that some things differed between online, onsite and CEC, so it may be drastically different. I hope someone else can give you a definite answer on this.
As for clinicals, you can get morning (usually 6:30 or 7am to ~2:30-3pm) or evening shifts, 2 days per week. Sometimes they wll give you one AM and one PM shift. It all depends on what facility you end up at. The arrival time and post conference time also vary by instructor. In every clinical I have had, except for mental health, pedi, and L&D, I had to go to the hospital the night before to pick my patient and get all the pertinent drug/lab information, history & physical, medications, etc to prepare for patient care.
In level 3 I got all 12 hour shifts which was awesome. They are long but I really enjoyed having that extra day to work or study. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
Hi everyone! My first post here!
I am applying for Spring 2010. I received approval the other day to take RNSG 1105, so I signed up for that course and feel excited but apprehensive.
I know receiving approval for 1105 is no guarantee to program acceptance, but how often does it happen someone takes the course but isn't accepted? I'm trying not to stress about it, but it's sortof difficult not to! Good luck everyone applying! :)
I hate to sound discouraging, but many people take 1105 and then don't get in. When I took 1105 last spring, three out of twelve of us got in. A friend of mine was in another 1105 course, and two out of eight got in.
Course, we could have been in classes with people who had really low rankings, and classes with high rankings all got in.
Just keep thinking positive thoughts! Good luck!

Thanks for the info! But oh man those odds aren't too good. My ranking score is 53.29, but clearly that may not be good enough if they are only taking 25% of those even taking 1105. I am hoping for ACC since it's cheaper and more convenient than the other options, though I might check out more on the UT AE MSN or the new Texas State program. Ugh....but I'm trying to be positive LOL
If 53.29 is your ranking score, then you may be OK. I had 52 points and was ranked 36th. It was my first time applying. I talked to several people who had 38 and 42 points and were turned down (not sure what their rank was). My hunch is you'll be OK, but it's wise of you to look into other options, too.
Try not to think about it, and have fun in 1105!

Hey everyone! So Im going to reapply for the Spring and I've recalculated my new rank to be a 52. Think that will be enough to get me in??
