Hey guys! I am taking my pre-req's for the ADN program right now and I'm just wanting to get to know others that are doing the same. I am currently working as a medical assistant at UT and i've been doing this for over 6 years. Been an MA for 11 years. I am ready for nursing! I feel good because I have a good amount of medical experience already, but I'm still nervous about getting everything done so i can apply. i am working full time right now so i can only take a couple of classes at a time. i feel like it's taking forever! today i am taking the biology assessment for the THIRD time! i have to pass! i can't believe i have to take it AGAIN. i have heard some people take it even more than that. that's crazy! i just want to take the class already. LOL sorry for the whining. i just want to do this already!
I'd love to hear from people that are going through the same thing:)

Sounds like we're about in the same boat, except I am not an MA. I've just been working a couple jobs for the past 10 or so years that I really don't enjoy. Finally decided to do something about it! I also have to take the biology assessment for the third time, so you are not alone there. Even though I won't be taking Anatomy this fall, I'm going to try to go ahead and get the assessment out of the way. No Anatomy classes are open this fall that will work with my full-time work schedule... on top of living in the middle of nowhere. Just doing a couple co-requisites for now and hopefully Anatomy this coming spring.
Good luck with your test! Third time's a charm! Hopefully for both of us. *fingers crossed*
I took it today and it was hard! There was stuff on there that I wasn't expecting and I have studied my butt off. I think I passed but I won't be surprised if I didn't. I'm really surprised at how hard the assessments are. I am thinking of maybe taking A&P I and II at Temple College if I didn't pass the assessment this time. Getting frustrated but I won't give up! I work full time as well and it's looking like I may not be able to take anatomy this fall either. I am registered for speech and art history for my humanities elective. Right now I am taking Human Growth & Development. Good luck to you when you take the assessment!:)
Ah dang ...I typed out a longish reply and hit the wrong button. Man, I sure am winning!
Anyhow, thanks for the luck. I need all I can get. Let me know how you did when you get your score back so I can at least celebrate you passing if I don't!
YES!! I did it! I got my score today and I registered for Anatomy in the fall. I am so excited. what a relief:)
Congrats!
Thanks hun! I wish you luck:) When will you be taking the assessment again? I'll send positive vibes your way. I know this whole process is nerve wracking. I still have to take phys., pharm., and micro. But, it feels so good to be on my way!:)
I scheduled off work to go take it August 4 ...close to last minute before it closes for this coming semester! Passing results are good for 2 years though, so I'm still anxious to get it over with. I must admit, I studied the first 2 times, but not anywhere near like I should've. Lesson learned. Multiple choice is not as easy as it sounds. I still don't plan on taking it this fall, though. The only class that would be available for my schedule would either be online or a long evening in Fredericksburg (which still doesn't even list a teacher) ...and neither sound appealing, so still trying for this coming spring. I'd rather do this fall ...just feel like it's impossible!
And I know what you mean about nerve wracking ...but I do understand why the assessment is there. Nerve wracking for sure, but in a way it's probably for the better. I think they just want less people dropping or failing once they get in. At least they aren't charging for the test... which was what I was expecting. Anatomy is not an easy class and I expect to have no life when I get to that point. Lots of studying and memorizing!
Sooooo glad you made it past that assessment point though ...and it gives me a glimmer of hope ...hehe. Still contemplating the job situation and trying to figure if any way possible to take it this fall if I pass. I just want to get somewhere already! The only thing you can do is the co-reqs until you get through Anatomy. Sounds like you are or will be a semester or so ahead of me but I'm sure at some point I'll have a class with you and not even know it ...crazy, small world ...eh? So far, I'm just taking Intro to Psych and a Speech class on Saturdays at Riverside this fall.
You know, you're more than welcome to shoot me a private message if you want to keep in touch. I think it would be kinda cool to talk to, vent, discuss, blah blah with someone in a similar boat. I think I'm too new around here to do messaging but if you're up to it, message me here or if you do the ever so wonderful facebook thing ...you can find me here: ...I would just post my email but it seems like a heavily trafficked board and I don't need anymore spam.
Good luck with Anatomy! I'm jealous ...but in a friendly, wish I were there sort of way
It'd be great to stay in touch. Def helps to talk to people that understand the stress. I sent you a friend request on Facebook. My names Debbie, by the way:)
I recognized part of the name from here to there and accepted. Keep in touch for sure.
