  1. hi guys! i am currently working as a medical assistant. i've been an MA for over 10 years and i am taking my RN pre-req's. good to see some older students here, as i am 32 myself. 33 in november. eeeek:p i am taking human growth and development right now and i will be taking anatomy in the fall. after that i have to take physiology, micro, and pharmacology. then i can apply to the program. i am really wanting to hurry up and be a nurse already, but i am glad that i am at least in the process:) anyone in austin tx or nearby?
  2. It'd be great to stay in touch. Def helps to talk to people that understand the stress. I sent you a friend request on Facebook. My names Debbie, by the way:)
  3. Thanks hun! I wish you luck:) When will you be taking the assessment again? I'll send positive vibes your way. I know this whole process is nerve wracking. I still have to take phys., pharm., and micro. But, it feels so good to be on my way!:)
  4. YES!! I did it! I got my score today and I registered for Anatomy in the fall. I am so excited. what a relief:)
  5. I took it today and it was hard! There was stuff on there that I wasn't expecting and I have studied my butt off. I think I passed but I won't be surprised if I didn't. I'm really surprised at how hard the assessments are. I am thinking of maybe taking A&P I and II at Temple College if I didn't pass the assessment this time. Getting frustrated but I won't give up! I work full time as well and it's looking like I may not be able to take anatomy this fall either. I am registered for speech and art history for my humanities elective. Right now I am taking Human Growth & Development. Good luck to you when you take the assessment!:)
  6. Anatomy- lecture/lab Physiology- lecture/lab Intro to Micro Pharmacology Intro to Psych Human Growth & Development English Comp I College Math there are a few other co-req's that i didn't mention, but those are the big ones. I still have to take Anatomy, physiology, micro, and pharm!
  7. 7 classes is a lot for anyone. and i can't speak for anyone else, but i have had doubts about whether being an RN is for me or not. and the only thing i can tell you is this.. if you really, truly, deep down want to be a nurse, you CAN do it! and no one can stop you. All you can do is try and if it's not for you, well at least you tested the waters. Nursing is not for everyone, but don't give up if it's what you really want:)
  8. Hey guys! I am taking my pre-req's for the ADN program right now and I'm just wanting to get to know others that are doing the same. I am currently working as a medical assistant at UT and i've been doing this for over 6 years. Been an MA for 11 years. I am ready for nursing! I feel good because I have a good amount of medical experience already, but I'm still nervous about getting everything done so i can apply. i am working full time right now so i can only take a couple of classes at a time. i feel like it's taking forever! today i am taking the biology assessment for the THIRD time! i have to pass! i can't believe i have to take it AGAIN. i have heard some people take it even more than that. that's crazy! i just want to take the class already. LOL sorry for the whining. i just want to do this already! I'd love to hear from people that are going through the same thing:)
  9. So, I am taking my pre-req's at Austin Community College for RN. I am hoping to take Anatomy this fall, but I have to pass an assessment before I can register. I have already taken it twice and I have to take it again this coming Monday. I can't believe that I am taking it a 3rd time, but from what i've heard from others that have taken it...it's not uncommon to have to take it multiple times before passing. It's so frustrating! I have been studying the materials from a continuing education course that prepares you for the assessment. I made flashcards and everything. Pretty sure I will pass it this time. Anyone else have issues like mine? And how many times did you take it? What techniques did you use when prepping yourself? It's for anatomy but there's a lot of phys. thrown in, so I am just bombarding my brain with info!
