Austin Community College ADN Fall 2020

Published

This is getting real and I'm eager for someone to be nervous with. I'm waiting for them to announce the Fall 2019 HESI, and am worried I'll drop the ball on something. Let's make a community here!

I don’t understand what the deal is with the ranking emails. They send them out first with our scores? Why does that matter if we don’t know the scores of everyone else...

Don’t mind me, just be over here obsessing until April

You want to make sure they have the correct calculation for you before ranking people for acceptance.

I polled everyone in my 1105 class and got an idea of where I stood.

The magic number for Spring 2020 acceptance was high 36.

Smart. Thanks for sharing! ?

Did y'all receive an email indicating your ranking calculation, or did you just do the it yourself?

We did it ourselves and the emails confirmed it.

Bunny, when did you get the email?

Spring 2020 got theirs in late September.

Our acceptance letters went out on Oct 16.

How did you guys calculate your scores?? I did awesome on the HESI, have all my pre-reqs and all co-reqs, and my GPA is good but I am not at a 36 so am I missing something? If high 36 is the magic number for entry that is

Editing to add: Just kidding I forgot to add my co-reqs-- but looking at it I am still right below it which sucks if that's the case. Does that mean I would have had to had all A's? Because I have some A's but mainly B's. ugh this is so stressful!

Rank =

[ Nursing GPA x (# of degree plan courses completed) ]

+ (HESI Points: 90-100% gives you 10 points, 80-89% is 7 points, 75-79% is 4 points)

+ (Review points earned: 5 points for a new app and 1 point for your review session, so 6 points total for a new app here)

Nursing GPA comes from prereqs and coreqs. Divide your total grade points by the total credit hours you've taken and you'll have your GPA. [To get the grade points for each class, multiply the course credit hours by 4 for an A, 3 for a B, 2 for a C.] Here is an example:

ENGL 1301 = A = 4 grade points x 3 credit hours = 12 pts

PSYC 2301 = A = 4x3 = 12

PHIL 2306 = B = 3x3 = 9

BIOL 2401 = A = 4x4 = 16

BIOL 2402 = B = 3x4 = 12

HPRS 2300 = A = 4x3 = 12

BIOL 2420 = B = 3x4 = 12

Grade points total = 85

Credit hours total = 24

85 / 24 = 3.54 GPA

So now we'll calculate our rank using this GPA. Again, Rank = Nursing GPA x Number of Prereqs and Coreqs completed (this number can be from 4, just the prereqs, to 7, which is all four prereqs and all three coreqs) + HESI points + Review points.

Let's say I got a 91 on my HESI. That gives me 10 points. I can now calculate my nursing rank!

Nursing GPA = 3.54

# Degree Plan Courses Completed = 7

HESI Points = 10

First-time Applicant = 6 review points

Nursing Rank = (3.54 x 7) + 10 + 6 = 40.79

Hope this helps! I know it's confusing, so if anyone wants to PM me their stats I'm happy to calculate your rank for you. Good luck all!

Hey guys! SOrry for being the one continually asking questions but someone mentioned you have to have all 3 Hep B shots before applying? For the life of me I cannot remember if I have those. Does anyone know if this is true?

Also! I work at Dell Childrens and work with two patient techs that tried applying last time and didn't get in and are trying this go around and their scores were in the 40s! This has me heavily scared as I F'd up A&P2 and got a C ? my fault for taking A&P2, Micro and Pharmacology all at the same time. So my score is at a 35.75

I'm legit afraid I wont get in this go around and wondered if anyone knew of anyone getting in with scores under 40?

Yes you need your 3 rounds of Hep B. If you're not sure go to your doctor. They were still offering spots to people with 35 points for Spring 2020 so maybe they meant their reapplication points would be in the 40s.
