August 2012 COT

Published

Hey I wanted to start a thread for anyone going to AirForce 2012 COT

I am a NICU nurse. You are right we did survive nursing school didnt we? I am a worry wart. I need to get me a personnal trainer.

To what extent to do they pack our stuff. what are we responsible for doing beforehand?

I am med/surg. I have been trying not to worry too much about what is happening with this process now that I'm in. I just do what my recruiter tells me to get done and work on the things that I can. I'm trying not to worry about the things that I can't control. I've learned by going thru this that worrying will not make it happen any faster. With all that being said...it is not that easy. I still do overly worry at times. I think that is just in our nature as nurses.

I believe they will pack all of your belongings. I think you just have to worry about scheduling the appt, but I could be worng because I haven't gotten that far yet.

You can schedule the move, get ID's apartment search before COT? I will be stationed in Lackland and school starts in Teaxs in August for my Kindergardener. Want to help my other half get him settled somewhat before COT. y husband said he can handle it but I want to help initiate the process.

rndiver82 right now I only know I will be medsurg. I was told I could go to peds, cardio, ortho, or telemetry (not sure about the last). I did my peds clinical at SLCH on 9west last fall.

Samm0705 they will pack everything for you. Usually the only thing I do is take everything out of cabinets (so nothing gets left), consolidate things how I want them packed, and separate the things I don't want packed and will be carrying with me. They will also unpack for you ad take away the boxes at the other end if you want them to.

Not sure when exactly you can schedule your move. I would ask your recruiter about that. Some people have been able to get their IDs already and some haven't. I have not been able to, yet. But I'm try to. My recruiter says I have to wait until COT, like some other recruiters. So not sure about that. I'm sure you could at least apartment search before on your own. You will probably have to do some research about the area and schools.

Once you have orders in hand you should be able to schedule your move.

Just curious: is there a Facebook page for this COT group? I've heard of other classes starting on so they could get to know one another before getting to Maxwell, but I haven't seen anything for this class. Is this still allowed or would this be frowned upon?

2012RN2b- I may have given you report! This really getting to be a small world. What do you do on Scott? Are you active duty now, a spouse of a service member?

So, since you sound like you know what the process is, what do I do after signing my letter? I'm not too worried about the physical testing, I'm more lost as to what all is going to be due. With school ending July 31 and my (short) vacation scheduled the following two weeks, I'm looking at a very narrow time frame to do a crap- load. Any words of advice as to what to expect?

So did anyone create a Facebook page?

I'm active duty. I"m commissioning through the Nurse Enlisted Commissioning program (NECP). I used to work in communications (network defense type) but since I was picked up for the program I have been just going to school the past couple of years. Now I'm just studying up and waiting to take the NCLEX.

I can tell you whatever you want to know about military life, uniforms, pt, etc . I know what will happen for me as far as commissioning goes but I don't know anything about the civilian process. Midinphx may be able to shed some light for you.

As far as what to expect if it's anything like our process. Once you sign and take the oath your paperwork is sent to Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC), they handle assignments and orders for the Air Force. Once you get your orders you'll have to do some medical clearance stuff for your family, get your appointments scheduled for the movers to pack up and pick up your stuff. This process is not to big a deal the movers usually come in the AM about 0900 and pack everything if you have a two story I usually like to have a friend there with me so someone is there to keep an eye on what's going on upstairs while I'm downstairs. They're usually done and gone with your stuff sometime that afternoon. It'll be a tight timeframe depending on when you get your orders it is doable. Just make sure any important papers you'll need (birth certificates, marriage license, etc) are somewhere where they won't inadvertently get packed away during the move.

Sorry I couldn't shed anymore light on things for you but I hope this helps some.
