Whoa,

My vacillating situation has been an experience for me!

I remember that someone here is going to be Aug 5th OBLC, it seems that I may actually be "there" too. ;)

The time that I will know, due to my crazy circtumstances and timeline, will probably be August 4th!!

So, if you see a sort of tall and sort of slim 40 year old with a green and gold serpent wrapping down to below the knee, its me. :)

Gen

p.s. so if you are training at FT Sam Houston and your first post assignment is going to be BAMC then do you think it'd be safe to just go on and find an apartment before training anyhow? hooah!

well i hope everything works out well for you and works with what would be best for your time frame. i did have a question for you though. i thought that i had read in one of your posts that you had already been sworn in. if i did read this, this sort of confused me. i have to wait until 3 days prior to reporting before i can be sworn in. my friends who are in rotc can not be sworn in until after they graduate. my active duty friends can not be sworn in until they pass the nclex exam. so i was just curious about what you were talking about. my active duty friends were surprised to find out that i have to be sworn in in civilian cloths because i can not wear the uniform until after taking the oath. i don't know anyone who is/has gone in as a direct commission. i thought you ended up doing this.

Gladly, it was confusing to me until I came across several other folks who knew about it.

Apparently it is an a take on an old act which was discontinued.

The way it used to be was that direct access commission were considered, ADL on reserve for their first ten years of service then they became regular AD. If I remember the details corretly this was abolished in 1996, or 1992 and all direct access commissions were considered straight AD.

When I oathed in on Dec 21st, my recruiter told me that this was a new thing were we initially swear in as "Active duty on Reserve commission" this is until we get to our first PCS or OBC and there we will have to "re-commission".

When I mentioned this on a military forum I heard from several people who did not like this whole idea of re-commissioning and they had heard about it previously.

Hoping things work out. Hey, I think that Iu95 may have had to recommission too? Lets ask how it worked for him.

Congrats. I'm glad that the Army has settled on a date. Are you getting everything taken care of now? Hope everything goes well.

Thank you Cherish,

Me too.

Thing is, now I must resign from my newly accepted and incredibly wanted position in a wonderful Maternity OB locally. I was slated to start there in June...if I am shipping at the end of July then I must tell them asap so that they can fill the position, again.

It is a place where I did my clinical OB rotation and I really felt at home there.

Maybe a letter with a card is a better way to send the information so that I can address it both to HR and also to the unit.

Gen-gotta study for now though! There are six weeks left of classes.

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

I'm glad everything appears to be moving forward -- Good luck!

Rme4life,

I think that someone else on this forum is going as well.

Do you have webcam at home? I am bringing my laptop and actually hope to manage to find an apartment in SA upon graduation and prior to OBLC, (since I will be permanently stationed there as it is). If possible, that is.

Anyhow, I do not have a webcam but, you'd be welcomed to bring yours and hook up to my laptop to send smiles home. :) Even digital camara smiles by email home too.

Counting down the days over here.

Still sweating the timeline for licensure based on my test date but, my date is still the 5th.

Hello Rme!

As far as I know, I am going. I just rented my SA apartment online, ...edited rest of sentence since its already been said...

Unless there is a major delay in my paperwork to schedule NCLEX, or if (knock on wood) I don't pass the first time I plan on being there. :)

My apartment is in Alamos Heights, (located less than a mile from Ft. Sam Houston and I've read from other military that it is a seven minute commute due to gates and things.) Its a managed complex so there are three pools and a special area for guest suites for visitors as well as senior day care and child care. Neither of which I will need but, it seems like it ought to be an okay apartment for the year-long lease. :)

Okay, now back to OBLC...I have looked at the website but, really do not know what to pack and bring because I just do not have anything! I still don't have my official orders but have received my welcome pcs letter and so on.

PM me if you want and I'll send you a recent pic from our post final comprehensive test, so you can recognize me. :)

Just working on my push ups and sit ups, ALOT!! I need to. :)

Lisa,

Hopefully it will simply show you that you and he are stronger than a little time and distance. :)
