You have to attend a general transfer student orientation (then you branch off to nursing advising). There will be a few nursing students there but not everyone because there are like 10 different orientations. We will meet everyone on the first day of class because the 1st year nursing fall courses only have one section each (except one of the classes has two), so we all will have the same exact schedule.

FGCU's program just recently got off probabtion by the state of florida, they had nclex pass rates only in the 50%'s a few years ago, to my knowledge that has been remedied, as their BSN mirrors Edison State's BSN. I just graduated in May from Edison's program, good program, but very hard, we started with 53, and graduated 23...... that's pretty much par for the course for any nursing program though.FGCU's nursing program allows you an ASN in the first 3 years, with the BSN course work in the last year. Edison's BSN is the same. If I were you, I would look at cost when making a decision, plus locally ,Edison's nurses have a better reputation, which may affect job oppurtunities should you choose to stay in SWFL; that may have more to do with Edison having a nursing program for about 20 years longer than FGCU, so the majority of local nurses in hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, offices, etc. were educated at Edison. Also something to think about, Edison is now a state college, not a community college, this means you have to apply to go to school there just like you would any other college. I think you are ok either way, no matter what the program, you get out what you put in. Good luck.

FGCU got off probation in 2004...it has been remedied for 6 years now & their pass rates are in the 80s & 90s, so I don't think that is an issue. Even though Edison is a state college, they still don't offer a BSN & I don't see the point in doing all that work just to get another Associates. Nursing school is hard either way but if you have a choice I would go with a Bachelor's...

You misunderstand, I was saying don't go to FGCU, I was just saying to look at both options, and you're information is wrong, Edison does have a BSN program, you didn't read my post fully, I JUST GRADUATED FROM EDISON. That is why I was just advising to look at both options. I am assuming that you are either a new student or trying to get into the nursing program, don't worry about school loyalty, pride, what ever.......... a school is a school, Nursing Degrees are not like your normal degrees, the work is not like your normal course work, you will most likely never want to see your school again when you are done, you will know what I mean when you are done. But to clarify, Edison State does have a BSN program. So does NOVA, Good luck in your endeavor.

err. mistake, I was not saying don't go to FGCU, FGCU's program is fine, I was just relating my personal exeprience of working in Nursing in the hospital system locally, and a very good friend of my graduated the year FGCU went on probation, it hurt his advancement in nursing.
