Attendance problems...what should I do?

Published

My attendance at work has been really bad lately. I know I am pretty depressed and I am very frustrated with a new charge nurse, and I am using every little ache, pain, sneeze, or sniffle to call in sick. I have no vacation time left because I am using it all up when I call in sick. I think I need to talk to my supervisor and let her know that I am aware that I am not doing well with attendance, but I'm not quite sure how to approach her. Also do I tell her why I am calling in or should I just tell her I feel like I am catching every bug that is going around? I really do feel like I am catching everything under the sun!

I just don't know what to do...I love my job and once I get there, I am usually fine, I am having such a hard time getting motivated to actually show up. I don't want to end up getting fired, not that I think that will happen, but...

What is going on that bothers you so much?

Calling off won't solve your problem with the new charge nurse, might jeopardize your job, and has wasted all your vacation time. Figure out why you're so frustrated......not only with what this charge nurse is doing but also why it bugs

you so much. Then figure out your options. It doesnt sound like its a big problem when you are actually there.....are you aggravating yourself by fretting to much once you're at home?

good advice fluffwad. :) when a person is under stress about something, it is difficult to be motivated to go into work where things are also on edge.

cotjockey....talk with your nurse manager, and if she is no help, perhaps the counseling department for employees could be of help to you. ((((((hugs)))))) :balloons:
