# of ATPs per 18-Carbon fatty acid

Published

I'm making a new thread for this because there are several classes that cover this.

I have to figure out the # of ATPs that are generated by the complete oxidation of an 18-carbon fatty acid.

I came up with 144 ATPs, but looking at different websites I see different amounts. I don't know where they are coming up with the extra ATPs.

I need a firm answer, with explanation if I'm not correct. Can anyone help??

Hopefully if that question is on the lecture test it will have values like A) 2000 B) 3 C)144 (or close to it)

LOL :)

LOL! I hear you! Good luck with it...we went over it but we weren't tested on it. Quite frankly I shudder everytime I hear the term "ATP". I was " ATP'd out" at the end of Molecular Bio ( the joke in that class was the answer to 50% of the test questions was " ATP" or " proteins")
