Hello everyone! It has been a very very long time since I was last here, and many things have changed and many things have remained the same. One thing of course that has remained the same is that I am here again asking for advice, haha!

The last time I was on this site I was telling you all about how I was in the process of applying to colleges as a high school senior and my plan to get my BSN! I am proud to say that now, I am entering my sophomore year at CSULA and applying to their SON very soon.

*There are 7 nursing prereqs that need to be completed before admission into CSULA's SON. Due to my AP test credit, 1 of the prereqs, Accelerated College Writing (ENGL 1010) was waived & I did not have to take it. (1/7 completed)

For the semester of fall 2017, I managed to get a 4.0 GPA overall, receiving an A for the 3 prereqs I took that sem- Critical thinking & comp (COMM 1200), Inferential Stats (EDFN 2520), & Fundamentals of Chem (CHEM 1010). The last class I took that semester was a general ed class particularly for incoming college freshmen (introduction to the college life, etc, etc.) which I also received an A for. (4/7 completed)

My most recent semester, spring 2018, I didn't manage to get a 4.0, but a close 3.7, getting a B+ in Anatomy/Physio 1 (BIOL 2010), an A in Public Speaking (COMM 1100), which are 2 of the remaining prereqs. I also received an A in Intro to Soc (SOC 2010) which is not a nursing prereq, but a class that needs to be taken once admitted in nursing program. As well as an A for Asian/Asian American Studies (AAAS 2200) which was a general ed class, not related to nursing at all. (6/7 completed)

This upcoming fall 2018 I am taking the last of my prereqs, Anatomy/Physio 2 (BIOL 2020) along with the rest of my GE's.

I do not know if you all are familiar to CSULA's admission process but GPA makes up a big portion of points, so please pray and root for me as my fate resides in my BIOL 2020 grade for this upcoming semester, and of course my other classes as well! (But I will definitely need more help in BIOL compared to the rest of my classes because there is a separate GPA portion dedicated just for nursing prereqs in which points will be assigned, in addition to the assignment of points for overall GPA [prereqs + general ed]).

With that being said, let's get to the heart of my visit today! (I apologize in advance for this long read but I hope this background information will help you all assess my chances of getting in, haha)

Another component to admission is the ATI TEAS test. In order to be given maximum points for that section (10 points) one has to be in the national percentile rank of 90-99% in both the Reading and English Language Usage section of the test. Science and Math are not counted in the awarding of the 10 points, but one has to be above the 40% national percentile rank to even qualify for the potential points awarded for Reading/English Language Usage. (Whew, that was a mouthful!)

I take my test in about a month or so (Aug. 13) and so far have taken 1 practice test. I am currently in the midst of taking my 2nd practice test and so far I have been doing so-so/good for someone who has not been in school mode for the past month and a half. For Reading/English Lang Usage I am scoring close to an 80%, Math in the high 90%, & Science, in the low 70% (rip I forgot everything) (And these percentages were just based on the 1 practice test I took so far). Combining all sections I scored an 82% on the test??? Not sure if adding up all the subscores then dividing by 4 to find the average is how they calculate your score in real life but hey hopefully it is somewhat close, haha.

Anywho, just wondering what is/was your study technique for the TEAS and how did you do? I was planning to just take 2 days out of the week to take a practice test, and use the remaining 3-4 days to review with the ATI study manual for each subsection. For example, this week on Tuesday-Wednesday I complete practice test 2 and then Thursday-Sat, Mon relearn all of the science portion outlined in the study manual, and so forth for the rest of the weeks to come.

I really need to score well on the TEAS because I want to get all my 10 points and not have to fork out another $100 to retake the test/study all over again- which will be especially difficult once schools starts again.

Also, can you all give me an idea of how taking the TEAS online works? The testing center I will be going to (Univ. of Phoenix Pasadena, since CSULA is all booked) administers it via computer so I have no idea what to expect. Will scratch paper be given??? (I like to take down notes while reading passages & of course I will definitely need it during the math portion- I could not do mental math to save my life) Do I bring my own pencils??? How does computer testing compare to pencil/paper testing?- harder, easier??? I also heard that scores are instant; right after you finish your test you will know your scores, if you passed, etc- can anyone confirm?

Again, thank you all for accompanying me on this journey and in this incredibly long post, LOL! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!! I'm also an incoming sophomore at CSULA and am trying to get into the BSN program! I'm also going to take my TEAS test in August so I'm desperately searching for any kind of advice regarding the test. I don't want to pay another $100 again either!!

I took my TEAS 6 in May of this year. I got an 87%. To study I almost exclusively used the study guide provided by the company. I haven't taken anatomy, phys, math, or english in more than 10 years and I did fine on the exam. I studied mostly science and english and i studied for about 6 weeks. On the practice exams I always scored in the 80's. The practice tests are a great study tool. The only section that wasn't super helpful on the practice tests was the science section because it is such a broad topic that it doesn't really help you in terms of what to study. I would just pound the study manual science section and you will be fine. The english section was the easiest for me - i only got 1 wrong. Math was exactly like the practice exams and so was reading. If you got an 82 on your practice test you will probably be just fine on the exam. Good luck!

hi AAZ319, thank you so much for the advice! today i started using the ati teas test study manual & i feel it complements the practice tests well as it explains to you exactly what you need to know! i do although wish it was a bit more thorough regarding things like explaining (for example in the english language usage section) the types of sentences there are (simple, compound, complex) and what certain aspects distinguish them as so, etc etc. because particularly those kinds of questions are tricky for me. nonetheless, hopefully with time and practice i will be able to perfect them! again, thank you so much for the encouragement, i appreciate it so much, especially in the midst of this stressful time! :-)

Hello everyone! Just a quick update on my TEAS test that I actually took 2 days ago. I scored 84% overall! As for my score breakdown,

Reading: Individual score: 80.9%

NPR: 75%

Math: Individual score: 87.5%

NPR: 88%

Science: Individual score: 76.6%

NPR: 89%

English Language Usage: Individual score: 100%

NPR: 99%

As for the scores that CSULA looks at, I am looking at 3 points for the Reading section (75%, must have been the jitters since reading was the first section of the test) and 5 points for English Language Usage (99%, definitely must have been the jitters since this is the last section of the test, AKA I was clearly more relaxed).

I am pretty happy with my score but I want to see if I can aim for the full 10 points that CSULA gives for scoring in the 90-99 NPR for both the Reading and English Language Usage sections.

Congrats on your TEAS exam. I am not schedule yet for my TEAS exam. But,

I am seeking guidance, advice, & tips related to TEAS. I believe the current TEAS exam is TEAS 6. I have been studying using an ATI & Momentrix book. I have also looked on Youtube, Quizlet.com, Chegg.com, and Khan Academy.
