Hi All,

We took the ATI for Med/Surg yesterday and I passed but most of our class didn't. Just thought to share some tips with you guys. First - there were a lot of questions on procedures and lab values. Learn your lab values!!! Know which lab value indicates what.It was not an easy test - so study hard. It definitely is possible though.

Of course, don't stress. Try to analyze each questions, never pick a question without knowing WHY you did. Most of the questions I had to guess honestly, but still when guessing I analyzed. Make sure to use the ABC (airway, breathing, circulation) mnemonic and Maslow's pyramid when answering questions.

Good luck on your test! You can do it!

P.S. Stand in a winning pose for 2min right before the test. Studies say it helps to be more confident.

I agree that ATI makes you feel like you're guessing most of the time. It takes forever to get truly comfortable with how that feels. A word about lab values: know them as well as you can but also know that NCLEX (and ATI to a degree) will throw out some radical values (i.e. the pt has a lab value of 7.0 for K+) for the scenario and usually that will lead you to the correct answer.

Agree @la_chica! But again, you have to know the value for K+ to understand it's far from 7 :) Guessing sucks, the whole time I thought I'm going to fail because I DID NOT see that material ever before. Thank God I didn't, I studied too hard...

I'm getting messages you guys but I'm not allowed to private message anybody yet. Feel free to email me at [email protected]

Thanx for the tips! I take my med-surg ATI in about a month. Do you know what the cut off for a level 2 is?

I believe the bottom end cut off for level 2 is somewhere around 66.7. Something like that. Although I did get a level 3 for my ATI Med-Surg proctored, I can't for the life of me remember what the top end cut off for level 2/level 3 is.

Sorry, I just realized that this may be in the LVN forum. The ATI cut off numbers I posted were in regards to the ATI Med-Surg RN proctored. I'm not sure if the scales are the same.

The cut off for Level 2 is actually 60.3 this year. I believe it's lower than other years, but hey that helped us pass, soo...

Ok so yeah, sorry, definitely don't listen to me on that one, it is definitely different than the ATI for RN, which is 66.7. I just took an ATI proctored 3 weeks ago and the bottom-end for level 2 was 66.7, while the top-end (for level 2) was somewhere in the low 80's. Sorry about that.

Much luck to you all!
