At a crossroad, just finished BSN

Specialties Informatics

I just finished my BSN and was looking at the different options I have before me at this time. I had planned on going forward and eventually going to NP school, but I'm a bit wary as I'm already feeling a bit fizzled from constantly seeing poor outcomes and people not caring for themselves and I know it would be probably much worse for me as an FNP because that stuff doesn't stay at work at that point.

Looked at nursing infomatics degree, saw they make a comparable amount to an FNP, is this true? If so, what types of jobs do they generally have? I live in a rural area so I've never met anyone with this degree. I am great at 'detail' work so it may be a fit for me.

Anyone have any advice?

I am almost done with my MSN in Informatics. According to a conference I went to, by 2018 there will be a 180,000 shortage of informatics nurses. It is such a varied field from teaching new grads EHR charting to working on the backside building programs or data analytics (not my favorite) I am working on an EPIC toolkit for new nurses as my practicum. I REALLY enjoy this. I did not want to do education only, but I am going to go on and get my DNP which means I can teach many different things. They really need nurses in this field.
