Plan on about 3 years of full time study. Nursing generally requires more credits than other programs, my program was 72 VS about 60 something for other AS degrees. Good luck!

i agree with the above poster.....plan on about 3 years of school ahead of you. my school didn't require more credit hours than other degree programs though(??!)....most community colleges go something like this:
1 year full-time prereq's + apply and wait to get into rn program
2 years of rn study + clinicals
good luck!!
is that the same for all bmcc, city tech and kingsborough. and if anyone graduated from any of these with a nursing associates, i want to ask how long did it take? did it take 3 years?

I would try a regional board and see if people in your area have gone to any of those schools. Look up their websites and look at their requirements. Most have the same general pre-reqs but also look at how their waitlist is structured. Do they take the best 100 (general number) applicants every year and you have to reapply every time you don't get in? If so make sure you do really well in your pre-reqs to give yourself the best chance. Do they operate on a first-come-first-serve basis? If so your odds are better of getting in but you may have to wait longer.
You can always meet with admissions at any school you're interested to ask them your questions, as well.

I'm currently attending City Tech and waiting on my acceptance/denial letter into the Nursing program. My pre-req GPA is a 3.458 and my Kaplan score is a 76. Incidentally, my sister is also a graduate of City Tech's nursing program.
An associate in nursing should take a minimum of 2 1/2 years if you take and pass the 4 pre-req classes in your first semester. The pre-reqs at City Tech are: ENG 1101 (English Composition, General Psych, MATH 1275 (College Algebra w/ Trig), and BIO 2311 (A&P I). Since you're just starting out, when applying to the CUNY system you have to take a placement exam. My suggestion: Get a SAT study guide and study the Reading, Writing and Math sections before taking the placement exam. Many people do NOT do that and end up scoring low and then being required to take remedial classes. Those remedial classes will extended your time in school depending on how low your score is. Remedial classes do not count as credits.
If you do well on the placement exams, apply for the Liberal Science Program, then register for the pre-reqs and be prepared to study and do extremely well. Your grades in the above four classes will directly affect whether or not you get into the nursing program. Your GPA in those 4 classes needs to be high, so be determined to earn A's and B's (preferably A's). If you take all 4 pre-req classes in one semester, then attend the nursing orientation and apply for the Nursing program in the same semester. By applying to the program, you are also scheduling to take the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam. You have to score at least a 60 to still be in the running for entrance into the program. Once accepted in the program it should take you 2 years to complete it.
City Tech does not have a waiting list. Either you get in or try again the next semester. Kingsborough has a waiting list (and instead of Math 1275, their pre-req is SCI 25) and I'm not sure about BMCC.
Pick your professors wisely for the pre-req classes. Read the books and do all assignments so you have a better chance of earning an A. BIO 2311 and MATH 1275 are critical, even though all are important. If you're not dedicated to learning the material in the pre-reqs, you will either not make it into the nursing program, or you'll get dropped from the program when you do get in. A classmate of mine has a 3.8 GPA because she picked easy professors that didn't require you really learn the material in order to pass the class, and because of that she can't pass the Kaplan for nothing. So, study! And good luck.
so it will take you 2.5 year to get associates degree?

At all of the CUNY schools it will take you 3 years full time to complete the associate's in nursing. If you don't pass the placement tests and you have to take remedial English, math, science etc, it will take 3.5-4 years.
Also, you have to get at least a 3.0 GPA on all classes to get into nursing clinicals. If you get a C in any classes, you will have to take them again and get a better grade before they will accept you for the nursing program.
how come city tech handbook say 2.5 years?
2.5 years is for the clinical portion. Before you can do clinicals, you have to finish the prerequisite courses- English, math, biology, chemistry, etc. Then you do the nursing courses.
