We opened a 12 yo to our agency who has been diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum to the lower extremity. The child most likely has Crohn's disease as well. Mom is very attentive to his needs, including wound care. My question is this - when I make my weekly visits to assess the wound is there anything I should be especially mindful of? Yesterday I made the visit and noted a new separation between the wound bed and the surrounding tissue which kinda freaked me out. He had just seen his pediatrician the day before but I didn't like what I saw and made and appt. for mom to take him back. I know pyoderma gangrenosum wounds frequently have violaceous borders - easily mistaken for erythema - but what should I be on the lookout for? Am familiar with the typical s/s wound infection.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
