Aspiring Nursing Student Dilemma

Published

I have been trying to get into a nursing program for the past year and half. My gpa isn't the greatest (2.9) but now i'm stuck. I don't know if it'll help if I retake a couple of classes, or if I should just change my career goals. I'm a CNA at the moment but I don't want to be a CNA forever.Does anyone have any helpful ideas? Or thoughts on my situation?

Yes retake as many classes to bring your overall GPA up, and make sure your science GPA is phenomenal. Take fluff classes if your science GPA is where it needs to be. If not redo everything that is less than a B.

What do you mean by "fluff classes"? And also, will the grades for the classes I retake replace the older grade? Or do you know how that works?

Some programs will not let you retake classes if you scored a C or better.

That's what I was thinking. I guess it just depends on the program huh. I'm stressing out over this bc I don't want to end up paying a ridiculous amount of money at west coast university just to get my bsn

Some schools don't accept classes that were taken more than X numbers of years ago. If that's the case, then you can jump start improving your GPA by retaking those classes. Don't let your determination wane...it's going to take a little more time and money on your part to get in to school, but don't give up!

Why not try the LPN program at Mercy Hospital in Miami, if you live in that area and then complete their LPN to RN program. The prequisites that you have will suffice for the program.

Thank you so much. I'll be retaking a couple of the science courses this summer. Hopefully that helps!
