ASN or BSN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This question is for the students that got accepted into both an ASN and BSN program. I accepted to both but im choosing the ASN because of the money. And i'll still be getting my RN license afterwards so I dont see as a big drawback.

If you guys can please discuss the pros and cons.. and what led you to choose the RN school of your choice.. thank you :)

I got accepted into several asn and bsn schools straight out of high school. Ultimately, I decided to go the asn route for 2 reasons. 1. I would graduate with no debt (I was offered a full scholarship) and 2. I would graduate after only 2 years of school, which meant I could start working more quicker. For me, money was the most important factor in my decision. The quicker I graduate, the more money I can make in my field.

I have looked into both programs and I am pursuing ADN programs. My school's ADN program (including prerequisites) will cost me around $20,000. After completing the ADN program and passing the NCLEX-RN, I can apply to RN-BSN programs as a senior to complete one more year for my bachelor's. I'm looking primarily into Washington State University - Vancouver and it looks as though their RN-BSN program will run me approximately $15,000.

I was waitlisted at the ADN program. Decided next step be to focus on the BSN. My work and job market hires a lot of BSN nurse's. However, if you enroll in a BSN or MSN online program most will look into hiring you or keeping you. The ADN with reimbursement be about $2,000. That's why I am focusing on the ADN.
