Being new as a CNA I'm trying hard not to be judgmental. But I notice some of the LPN's just seem like they don't want bothered at all with the " aides". Granted they have a lot on their plate. But sometimes when all I need is to reposition someone and can't find another aide an LPN will help me. Also some help feed residents in the dining room. There are a couple in particular that just seem to act like they know it all and won't help with anything. I told the lpn that a resident needed a dressing and she waited 4 hours before doing so. Granted this lady would have just pulled it off. But still she recently had an amputation and it's still healing so she needs it covered to avoid infection. Plus I had never been on a wing all by myself and so another aide offered to switch. I saw no problem in this because she would sign for caring for these people and I would sign for hers that I cared for. But this same nurse said no! They usually don't let someone go alone unless they've been there at least 3 and a half to four months. I've only been there two months and no prior experience. It just irkes me some of these nurses act like hot shots. They've probably never been in our shoes and that's why.
I always thought that was part of our job! (I'm a CNA) The nurse will often use the intercom @ the nurses station to ask residents what they need when they use their lights, but that's only if the CNAs are in the rooms giving care. My ADON put a sign on the back of the bathroom door that said among other things, "Call lights get answered within 3 minutes. MOVE!" Amen!
It's hard to be the new kid on the block, and unfortunately a lot of our profession "eat their own". Why ? I don't know but they make it hard on everybody else as well as themselves. When I was a new RN grad I had an LPN who wouldn't give me a break no matter what I did it was wrong. I finally left the unit & overheard on my last night from a Rn that floated to our unit that she had been in the LPN's class and went on to get her RN. I found out that LPN had had a factory job that was phased out and went into nursing. While she did that her mother practically raised her 2 kids for her. She was jealous of me because I worked as a CNA , went to school and handled 3 school aged kids. She was fortunate that she had her mother's support. I did too, but mine was 800 miles away and my husbands family was at a distance too. Sometimes you appreciate what you get when you have to struggle for it (my husband went back to school in computers just ahead of me. We worked different shifts ,him 1st at krogers to retain some insurance bebefits (23 hrs), then 2nd shift at his new full time temporary job (which led to a good one 1 1/2 years later). I worked 3RD shift then went to schoolseveral hours in the AM slept a few then went back several hours in the PN then to work. Sometime you may never know why someone is "mean" or unhappy, but try to find someone you work with to support you. I've never known anything that wasn't a nurses job if it needed to be done for the patients sake. If iit wasn't for the patient you wouldn't have a job, and if you don't enjoy working with people you should do yourself and everyone else a favor and find a different kind of work. One of the girls that I went to school with didn't want to be a nurse ,but she flunked out of one school and just wanted to prove to them she could do it.Barely made it by the skin of her teeth and I've heard from varions sources that it shows in her lack of care. Let the ortho pt wait until the next shift for a pain pill but forget to report it and leave messes for the next shift to clean up. What a waste of time!!

Those CNA's better answer those call lights. I was a CNA for 6 years in long term and acure care in every shift and I answered my call lights. I never once complained that the lazy butt RN/LVN's I worked with didn't answer my pt's lights.
Honestly, any CNA that whines about call lights *yawn* needs to find another profession.

I also gave showers on the pm shift and my residents/patients never once developed any pressure ulcers.
