Army precision courses

Anyone know what a contract looks like for the precision courses they offer??? I'm being offered the ob/GYN precision course but I think they want an extra year of service......advice????? The offer sounds too good to be true!

Specializes in Women's Services.

The precision course guarentee/option sheet is something you will sign before they submit your packet. Your recruiter should provide you with the details. It does say that you owe them a year after the course is complete, it does not add a year to your contract. You will be able to discuss details of your contract once you are selected. By the way, I'm also going into OB/GYN, and got the precision course :)

Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.

When I came on active duty I had the Perioperative Course Guarantee in my contract along withthe Loan Repayment. The course had a 1 year ADSO (active duty serviceobligation) and the loan repayment had a 3 year ADSO. But the ADSO's were concurrentnot consecutive. The reason for the 1 year ADSO is that the Army wants to getsomething out of the money they spent on training you. The Army has a 1 year ADSO on any education which is greater than 30 or 60 days (don’t remember which).

All initial military contracts for active duty have a 3 year ADSO along with a 5 year period which can be served on active or reserves. If you are prior service the ADSO is for 3 years with no follow on active or reserve comminent.

Congrats on getting the course! I haven't heard anything yet so my chances don't look good this year. I filled out the application so last minute that I couldn't even get a physical in time. They made an exception and took my application regardless (maybe because of my age and clear medical history) but I still think I may have to wait. I've been dreaming about that precision course since I started nursing school in 2008! You must be excited!

So I am trying to understand, are you saying your application for the ANC went before the board, and you never went to MEPS? I didn't even think that was possible lol.

by the way, I am so not trying to be judgemental, sometimes life just gets in the way, but if it has been a dream for four years why did you wait till last minute. I know we started in June and got everything done around the time for the cutoff maybe a few weeks to spare. Your recruiter is a go getter at least lol. I am just amazed you were able to get the app in without a meps visit. That astounds me, have they set up a MEPS appointment in the meantime. Maybe ask your recruiter to get you into MEPS as soon as they can so you have it done.

My recruiter told me that my packet was approved to Board. My CV review was approved and I had an exception to Board without physical. I had all my medical records copied for them to look at. They also had a height and weight. Being in my twenties, I don't have really have much of a medical history...maybe that's why I somehow got the exception? I don't know but I really had to work hard to get all application complete within a short amount of time....it will be a miracle if they actually approve me.

hopefully everyone finds out today. 2 years of experience in icu is pretty good for the board. Are you boarding as 8a or just 66h. The Army of course will no say the younger the better but you can guarantee it makes a difference my wife is 28 I honestly believe that helped her alot. Age is a currency in the Army.

Hopefully, I'm 25. No kids or husband either! I should be a no brainer but who knows! I don't have an identifier. I would be a 66h. If I don't get in this year, I may just wait and get some sort of OB/GYN identifier for next year's board. Plus, I heard there's a hefty bonus if you commission with an identifier.

I applied so late because even though I know many officers and army nurses, I wasn't sure if I would be army material. It was always in the back of my head and I kept getting interrupted by life. I had a wake up call early October when I realized that it was now or never and I met with the recruiter the next day. I had no idea what the application was like...but luckily I had all my documents neatly organized because of just recently starting grad school online.

The amazing thing is my application was bounced from recruiter to recruiter until finally (literally like a week and a half before deadline) one came along and said he would get it in time for me. I need to send him a fruit basket and some homemade cookies! Lol

Yeah the app took us a couple weeks to get filled out. So many PoC's needed per move and per job change. that was one of the worst paarts.
