Army Nursing Corp

Published

Hello all!! I am currently working on my BSN and looking at entering into the Army after graduation. Can anyone explain to me the whole process and how to go about it? I definitely want to work as a nurse. Am I guaranteed a position in my career? Do you go to both boot camp and then OCS or are they combined? What are the Pros/Cons? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I'd recommend that you spend a bit of time browsing through this particular forum... then searching a bit - you will then find your answers through lots of previous posts and replies, then come back with some specific questions~

you'll pick up a lot more info by lurking around a bit. Lots of good info found here along with a lot of generous and knowledgeable contributors.

No OCS, no boot camp... officer basic course.. you can get a course guarantee but you always will work in needs of army first - as long as you are flexible but forwardly optimistic you can make a great path but don't always get that full control.. i feel you gain opportunities but you lose total control - you just have to accept it to excel at it.. pros/cons.. individually dependent. browse a bit you'll find them yourself ;)

Hi Tori! Welcome to allnurses. :) When do you graduate? You can discuss Army nursing with a healthcare recruiter: http://www.goarmy.com/content/goarmy/locate-a-recruiter.html -- select "AMEDD" under "area of interest" so you can locate your closest healthcare recruiter. Don't bother talking with any other kind of recruiter, they won't have a clue!

There are fewer slots for RNs in the Army right now; the next Army Nursing Board for new nurses is next month, I believe, and it might be the only one for the year. If you're really interested, you should contact a recruiter and get started -- the paperwork is extensive! As just_cause said, there is a lot of great info in this forum -- you can find many answers to questions.

Thanks for the advice Just_Cause I've heard so many different things. I just want to make sure I cover my basics.

LunahRN, I don't graduate until 2012 but I'm just trying to get my research done now so that I will have everything planned out upon my graduation. I've talked to a few recruiters, but I will definitely see what an AMEDD recruiter. Thanks for the advice!!
