Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Hello everyone! I have submitted my packet for review for FY2013 and am excited about the incredibly opportunities that the army has to offer. I am a relatively new nurse with limited experience in a very small ICU. With this in mind, my recruiter has suggested that I enter as a med-surg nurse and then attend the precision course guarantee for critical care. My husband is also active duty, so I have a few reservations about us both being active duty, for example, different deployment cycles, training, PCS'ing, etc. Can anyone provide insight to the precision course guarantee for critical care or both spouses being active duty? What are the major differences between civilian nursing and army nursing?

Way to Go!!!! Glad to hear that your PT test it over and done with! How long do you have to complete BOLC phase 1 before heading to Phase 2?

Everything is good here, just waiting for the board on Nov. 5th and biting finger nails down to nubs... So we will see :) Good luck on your phase 1 training and I will definitely keep you posted on the Nov. Boards!

According to members of my platoon, it takes a few months. One of them said, he did it every weekend for 3 months. Some took longer, some took shorter depending on how you approach it.

Im glad to hear youre doing well and Im praying for good results for you at the Nov boards. :)

Hooah!

Hi everyone! I finally was able to make it to MEPS for my physical; which I passed! (I was worried about height/weight as its always been an issue with the Army) Now I'm just waiting on the board like everyone else. I was able to get the precision course guarantee for OB/GYN RN, so I'll be heading to Tripler (Hawii) for 4 months after BOLC. :) I can't wait to hear from the board!

Hi everyone,

We all know that the board convenes on 5th Nov. But when will we find out the result? Where can we look it up for the result. My recruiter just told me that he is gonna let me know when he finds it out. Is there any other faster way to find out the result i.e. MILPER message. These 10 days seems way too longer. Like everyone else, i am also crossing my fingers. Approximately how soon after the board will we hear the result?

I do not believe that the results of the board are sent out via a MILSPER message.

Hello everyone,

Major Jackson here. Going up for the 2013 boards again this year. This is my second go around at this active duty thing. This year I added a master's degree and two very stellar OER's. Hoping this puts me in the "in box" with the rest of you super candidates.

My recruiter told me that the board results can take anywhere from 1-2 days for results for hpsp med students, for nurse corps officers there are so many of us applying my my recruiter said that rn boards can get in a bottleneck. He told me that I could hear back in approx 1-2weeks. So I guess the results can e anywhere from 1day-2weeks. Good luck to everybody!
