army name tag / tape

Published

I have a long hyphenated last name, too long to fit on a name tag or a name tape my family has been military for over 200 years, my ex husband's family has not, I kept his name because of my son, who is now 18. socially I always went by my husbands last name but legally it is hyphenated maiden-married names. Could I just use the first part of my name on the tape/tags?

No problem. You should be fine. Just make sure all your papers have the correct/legal name.

Good luck.

If your name is too long, you can use the part that you normally would, if you needed to shorten it. However, if you are taking a Dept of the Army official photograph in your greens for your personnel file, for your promotion board, I believe you are required to use the entire name as it appears on your records. You can verify this with your local personnel office.
