I'd appreciate comments, opinions, thoughts in comparing BLISS vs HOOD for an Army nurse in terms of overall work place and family life.
If you had to choose between the two - what are some of the factors you would use between the two?
Thanks!

I know that the Ft. Hood hospital (DACH) is very large and has several clinics through out post. I have personally had good experiences with the hospital itself. I had 2 of my 4 children there and enjoyed my stay. The L&D people were very profession and I thought did a great job. I felt that most of the NP and Doctors that I saw at OB/Gyn clinic were very good and knowledgeable. It was after I had my 3rd child that I had problems that drove me to receiving care off post. The major issue was the clinics seemed to be chronically short staffed and if there was a major deployment it only became worse.
The staff at the hospital seemed to all get along and seemed happy to be there. Some of the clinics seemed to not always have happy workers.
I did love the hospital because it had a lot of resources and the doctors
didn't have a problem using them if needed. You couldn't get that with the off post doctors because Tricare dictated what could or couldn't be done.
We are PCSing to Ft. Bliss next month so I don't have an opinion about what kind of hospital they have.
For home life, Ft. Hood is what you make of it. The area is very dependent on the military so it is a very military town. It's not very pretty, but it's not very far from some pretty good places like Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, or San Antonio. I personally wouldn't live in Killeen, but Copperas Cove is a nice place to raise a family. The elementary schools are very good in Copperas Cove. I love the fact that Copperas Cove voted for everyone to take a 2% lose in wages so that no one had to be layed off from the school system. None of the other area school systems did that. They decided that layoffs of several teachers and staff was a better idea.
We were given the choice between Bliss and Hood and we chose Bliss. I have lived at Hood for many years, but I don't like the fact that the crime is getting worse in that area and some of the changes that have come about in that area.
We chose the hell we didn't know over the hell we did know. lol Seriously, I have heard good and bad things about both areas and Ft. Hood is going to be what you make of it.
Damrcngrl95, Thanks for the reply.
You are welcome. Sorry for the glaring grammar issues in my post. I really need to reread what I write.
