Flashcard Suggestion for A&P class

Hi. I am taking a prereq course (Anatomy and Physiology) soon and was hoping to get a jump start on studying and assist my notetaking once the class begins. I figure A&P must be a class where there are already some really good flash cards out there so that I do not waste a lot of time writing flashcards, but spend more time studying/memorizing them. Plus, my artistic skills aren't that great, thus, I figure I will better understand the pre-made flashcards than my own diagrams!

Any suggestions re names of publishing co, names of cards (I assume Anatomy or Anatomy & Physiology) and where you found them (amazon.com, or wherever) would be greatly appreciated. :)

If you have other tips, or think I am way off base on my flashcard theory for this course, please let me know that too!

Store-bought flashcards were a waste of money for me. I have taken all prereqs for nursing...A&P 1&2, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc.,... I never used those kinds of flashcards, and I got high A's in all of my classes. For me, making my own was a tremendous help because just writing out the material on your own cards helps you to retain the information so much better. I am certainly no artist, and you don't have to be to make flashcards. I wouldn't spend your money on any extra study materials until you start class and figure out what is going to work for you in regards to studying. ALL of the extra stuff I bought before class started...I never used any of it! If I had to give any advise to incoming students for A&P I would say write out the material over and over, and get into a study group with like-minded students who are focused on succeeding the same as you are.

Great suggestions, back2class! I did my own for Bio156...I was just hoping tp save some time so could study more as I am juggling alot while doing my prereq's (kids, job, husband...etc). But, you make very valid points...I may very well just do my own again.

Yeah, I am with back2class. Don't bother with the flashcards :). If you go to class, take notes, read the material and study, you'll be fine! It's really not that bad, but you have to study and you can't cram the night before a test. If you try to cram, you won't do good. Good luck to you and don't worry, it'll be easier than you think!

there is a nice free place to review different subjects on line at www.flashcardexchange.com i have used it for a couple of classes i am taking. not all cards are relevant to my class but i did learn from the different perspectives. just my :twocents: good luck!

Honestly, if you REALLY want to get a head start, get the materials you'll need for class and start memorizing everything, or at least reading the book. There is indeed a LOT to learn, but if I can do OK in a 10 week class, ANYONE can! (Although I wish I had waited until Fall to take it, but then I wouldn't be starting my program until a semester later. *sigh* lol)

Sometimes I think its NOT a good idea to start studying before class actually starts. I find that if I open my books before class I get overwhelmed with whats in there and you might waste valuable study time on something that is not as important as another topic. Just my :twocents: :)...

I used the Kaplan Medical Anatomy Flashcards. They were detailed and had descriptions of anatomical functions on the back that I found very helpful when studying. I bought mine for $14 used on Amazon, although I think they were only $16 new. By buying these cards and not making them myself I could spend more time memorizing and less time drawing.
