Hello!

I am a current post-bacc student at ASU. I am starting a thread for those applying to the 2018 program. Last year we had fantastic support from the 2016 class (and still have support from them today), so we are extending this help to the 2018 hopefuls as well! The feed for our class last year was an invaluable resource, so use this one to ask for advice or get answers to your"burning" questions (nursing school reference…you will see)!

Don't get me wrong, this program definitely has negative aspects like disorganization and maybe some instructors that others don't like but I still love every minute of it. Nothing in life is perfect or easy and that's what keeps it interesting. Your advancement score sounds really good. Mine was only a 1.77 but then again, we all got in without competition haha. Maybe you guys will get that lucky and I really hope you do. And if not, take those replacement classes and try again.

I was also curious if you guys have talked much about nurse residency programs. I've read that students like to pursue them after completing accelerated programs to get extra time with more supervision before delving into floor positions and some hospitals even require them of all nurses coming in with less than six months of experience. I know programs are offered in Phoenix at PCH and Mayo.

Has anyone done their fingerprint clearance card stuff yet? I am not currently in Arizona and I saw on the application guide that it could take up to ten weeks but on the fingerprint website it said we should hear within 3-5 days about the status of our application and then if approved, mailed our card. What was your guys' experience? I'm just trying to figure out when I'll come out to Arizona to get fingerprinted.

I did mine already. It took 4 weeks to get the card back... I suggest you book an appointment soon. What state are you currently in? Have you applied to the community health program at ASU yet? I'm also interested in your study skills! Congrats on the TEAS

Okay good to know! I am in CA right now. So it's not a long trip but still annoying since I was just out there last week and should have done it then. And yes, I already sent in my general application to the college of nursing. I'm just waiting on my snail mail transcripts to be received and updated as well as the receipt of a couple syllabi so I can have the courses evaluated. For the TEAS I bought the Secrets study guide from Barnes & Noble and studied that for a few days. I also bought a book with six practice exams and took those so I could get an idea of the timing. Basically I just read the entire secrets book a couple of times, jotting down notes of things I didn't already know well. I was a biology major in college so the science section wasn't too challenging for me. I think A&P questions were the hardest because naturally there is just so much to remember for that and you never know what questions you'll get asked. I think the best you can do is take as many practice tests as possible to get a feel for the type of questions asked and how they word them. Like they say, it's less about what you know and more about how you read the test questions. I should be in Arizona in another month to tackle the fingerprinting and would be happy to lend you my study manuals while you study for the exam (: I don't know if any of that was at all helpful to you, but I joined the Facebook group if you want to find me on there and message me. I don't have Facebook :(! Is there an Instagram acct? I have the secrets book and I'll start studying after summer. I'm taking AP II and micro accelerated! Ha!

No worries! Try delayknee_d and we will see if you have any luck. Wow! I took A&P 1 accelerated last summer along with nutrition and psychology but I can't imagine doing micro along with it. SO much memorization for you!

Which Facebook group did you join?

I am currently preparing application, almost done with pre-req classes and need to take TEAS exam on end of Aug. I am not a good test taker, I am worried :(

Of course. Ummm I think it was like Post Bacc 2018 (sleep optional). Something along those lines. Someone wrote it down in an earlier post on here!!! I still have two courses to finish up in fall but the rest are done. Thankfully. Just do lots of practice tests before the end of August. The more you take, the more comfortable and prepared you'll feel when the time actually comes for the actual exam. I don't recall if there are any online practice tests available. I did all of mine in a book and taking it on the computer is definitely a different experience. We all grew up with paper standardized exams so the switchover to computer based exams is an adjustment for sure. I was worried I was going to exit myself out of the exam on accident the whole time.
