ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN 2017 - Welcome

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey everyone,

I am a current post-bacc student at ASU. I wanted to start a thread for all of you who are applying for the 2017 class. Last year we had amazing support from the 2015 class, so we wanted to carry on that tradition and provide you all with the same support system. Feel free to use this thread to ask questions and seek advice. Many of my classmates will be on here answering your questions as well!

Good luck to you all!

Jshirleyjasper- thanks for sharing. I am curious, if you don't mind sharing, where you're from and what made you decide ASU was worth the extra cost, what attracted you to the program I guess. Thanks!

Jig830 - I am from California but I received my first degree from a school in New Jersey. After I graduated, my boyfriend and I decided to move to Arizona as it was a central location between our families. I looked at GCU, ASU, NAU, and UofA. Being from out of state, there wasn't a significant price difference between the programs. I chose ASU's Post-Baccalaureate Program based on their NCLEX pass rate, the length of the program, and ASU's overall reputation.

What are the loan options? Are they mostly through the school or do students have to find loans outside of the school?

I have financial aid through the school and a private loan from my bank. Most students use financial aid through ASU as well. Then there are some that work part-time.

Sundevil2015 - Similar to what @farmraised stated, I chose a financial aid package through ASU. Personally, I received an unsubsidized, a subsidized, and a Parent Plus loan but I did not accept them all each semester. Financial aid packages are specific to the individual but to answer your question ASU does provide loan options.

Has everybody taken the teas already? How did you do? I'm taking mine in a few days!

@horsegirl, I took mine in May. If you studied I'm sure you'll do well.

Good luck! I'm taking mine on Wednesday and have been studying for what feels like forever and I still feel unprepared.

If you have done a lot of practice tests you'll notice that there are always certain types of questions. There is always a dangling modifier question, a balance the checkbook question, a plural question Etc. So if you take some practice exams and then just study the bits you got hung up on you'll do great. I took 7 practice exams and only studied things I missed. When I took the test for real I got a 98. The science part is the hardest to study for but again, practice the concepts you miss and also go through that part of the study guide and take some short notes on things you might need to brush up on. Good luck! You'll do awesome!

That's an amazing score, good job! I've been reading a lot that the practice exams are harder than the actual exams, is this true in your opinion?

I've done the tests in the back of the book and have been getting in the 90's for English and in the 80's for the other sections. I plan on buying at least one of the practice exams from the ATI website tonight.

Hi Maycation.

My son is applying to the program for Spring. This is awesome that you are doing this. Can you please email me at [email protected] and LMK the name of the professor you took for the RIO Patho class. I have to sign him up and would love for him to get the same teacher. Thank you so much.

Yeah, I would say in general the practice tests are harder than the real one but not waayyyyy harder. They do well to prepare you. The science is kindof a crap shoot because you might get a lot of questions about something you know really well or you might get a bunch about ones you didn't study as much recently. I would recommend doing at least one of the ATI online exams even though they are expensive. If you're scoring in that range I think you will do really really well on the true test. Have fun!
