Aria School of Nursing September 2012

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi all, I'm new to this site (just joined today). But I've been lurking for a few weeks. I'm applying for the Aria Health SON and would love to meet others who are applying for the September 2012 academic year.

No financial aid info sent to me yet either

One week of 310 down. Im already overwhelmed w/ material and Penn State classes havent started yet! *sigh* here we go again.

The new school is nice, its just so different. Our library is half the size, the 2 computer rooms are now only one.....idk its just different. I miss the old school :( This will take some getting used to.

@ Kristin, sorry it took me so long to respond. I've been studying like crazy due to finals! But I mailed my child abuse stuff on the April 21st and it took about a week and a half to nearly two weeks to receive the results.

In regards to the financial aid stuff, it just was the standard, "you've been selected for verification" meaning I need to turn in more paperwork. But the email came from Jeanne. Also, one of my classmates in my A&PII class, said Julie called her back on Wednesday after she had left her a message. Hopefully that means that they are getting back on track and will be returning everyone's calls?

@ Bumblebee, sorry to hear about all of the workload. Hopefully once you get into the groove of things it will even itself back out for you. How far is the new school from the old one, do you have the address? I'd like to get an idea if I should take the Walt whitman or the Tacony Palmyra for my commute.

If you can, definately take the Tacony because its $2. I take the tacony there and the Betsy Ross home. The commute is like 15-20 longer for me :( It takes me like 45-50 minutes to get there instead of 25-30. Its really taking a toll on gas already, but gotta do what ya gotta do.

I had to pull out my gps to see what i've got in there

3 Interplex Dr, Trevose,PA

Its in the Neshaminy Interplex building number 3

Oh I live really close to both the Tacony and the Besty Ross so I'll probably do the same thing you do. Yeah the old school was the same thing for me like 25-30 mins and sometimes less. *sigh* But your right, it is what it is, we'll do it and survive. Thanks so much for the address because I have absolutely no idea where the Neshaminy Interplex is.

No problem. Yeah its a pain....happy that my clinical is at Frankford campus (for the third time in a row too) because at least its on the way home

I actually tried to get a unit secretary job at the frankford campus. I wanted something with minimal hours that would also help with experience after graduation. But alas, I've heard nothing back. I would love to just study full time, but I was told to get a foot in a hospital door now and it will help tremendously after graduating.

Specializes in ORTHO, TRAUMA, MED-SURG, L&D, POSTPARTUM.

Wow you all have been active on here!

I also have been selected for financial aid verification too. Verification = more paper work.

I submitted all my FBI clearance and Child Abuse clearance back on 4/20. I still haven't heard back from either. I also did my drug test on 4/20, thanks for sharing that the results already went to the school. I was wondering about that. All this paper work is driving me crazy. My doctors office is very busy so I am having to do several trips to get all the paper work filled out by the doctor (who missed signing some of the papers during my first visit!). Today I waited in the doctor's lobby for over an hour just to get my PPD results read.

Most my shots were up to date last year when I got hired at Lourdes, but Aria SON said they won't accept my shot record from Lourdes Hospital. Bummer! Now I have to get titers for all my shots proving immunity. The lab at my doctor office charges $120, breaks down to appx $20 per titer. That seems steep to me. Does anyone know of a clinic that charges less? Also I got my flu shot 10/28/11 so do I need to get another this year to prove I have it?

One last question. Bubblebee made it sound like we SHOULD get an ipad instead of buying textbooks? Did I understand that right? Does anyone know if all our textbooks will be available on the ipad? I was leaning towards a cheaper netbook because it has an attached keyboard to type and I own an imac and sometimes I can't access information that requires a pc or microsoft internet explorer.

Thanks so much for the address! I emailed Julie asking for it since I guess that's where we need to send any paperwork now, such as final transcripts ?

Also I wanted to ask if anyone knew if the medical forms that include the vaccinations that we need to get filled out are what we upload onto the website or do we need to ask our doctors for actual paperwork for each one?

And I have not gotten a flu shot (ever), and when I asked my doctor about it today she said that they do not have any because it is not that time anymore, and plus the paperwork says to put N/A if needed until we can get it in October. I'm just worried that I am the only one without it! lol Thanks so much.

Amber your dr can fill out the packet & you can upload that. But if your dr doesn't know the dates of your vaccinations you'll have to get titers, and can just upload the titer lab reports. I switched doctors and somehow my medical records were misplaced (but I knew which vaccination I had) and my dr didn't want to wait for an archives request, so she had me get titers for everything. My dr said since I was going into nursing and going to be at various clinical sites she wanted to ensure I had acceptable levels of antibodies to be considered immune. Long story short I had all of my child shots but somehow my polio level was too low. Hmmmm...guess she was right. :-)

Holly can you get a copy of your vaccinations from your job and give them to your dr? At this point I'm trying to save as much $$$ as possible.

no no nono ipad lol! You dont need it. U dont really need a netbook either. All the lectures are on printed out powerpoints. Even for the penn state classes. I dont even use binders, i just shove them in folders. U can use binders if u want.

It sucks they are making u redo your shots. Idk of any cheaper places. Just do what ya gotta do.

As far as having your foot in the door, im sure it helps to be actively working in the hospital. You can easily get a CNA job at Aria. Im not going to because im not commuting for that. Plus im not sure if i want to work in PA or NJ when im done.

If anything....study fulltime and when you are on your last 6 months-1 year, then get a job as a CNA at Aria.

Dont worry about getting a job. Worry about that when its time to cross that bridge. I dont worry about it whatsoever. Its not todays problem. Right now youve got 2 or more intense years of work to do. Concentrate on getting through that...and everything else will fall into place! (talking to myself too here :p)
