U.S.A. California

What is the best area to live in San Francisco, where there is close by transportation systems, areas to walk in safely, good atmosphere for younger single, straight crowds, and minimal fog.

Noe Valley is nice - usually sunny; close to BART, the J (muni), 280 & 101 freeways; and safe. It is more of a young family neighborhood but it's within walking distance to the Mission (bars, restaurants, hipsters, cafes, etc)

San Francisco has fog, no way that you are going to avoid it.

You have the Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Fog is very common and unable to avoid it.

Preference should be made on housing based on where your contract is going to be, that should be the first consideration.

The entire Bay Area can have fog--but some areas are worse than others. I've lived all over the Bay Area and have found that SF/Pacifica/Brisbane/Colma/Daly City seem to get the most socked in and things start to get less foggy from South City on down. In order to get sunnier weather you would need to BART down the peninsula to San Bruno, Milbrae or if you really like poolside weather, take Bart to the East Bay (Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Concord).

I grew up in SF and I personally love the cozy way fog feels and miss it when I live elsewhere. The Fog usually has a pattern in which it rolls out by late morning/noon and returns late afternoon. Over the last 10 years I've started noticing less fog and hotter summers. The foggy summers of my youth seem completely gone now.

So don't worry, It's not as if SF never gets sun. Even with the fog, the SF area is going to be sunnier than most places in the USA. If you really need sun, So Cal may be more your style.

Hope this helps, Berto

Cow Hollow!! For sure. But expensive.

Yeap, the Marina district has some warm spots--especially right there in cow hollow which is up on the hill a bit. While it's expensive, there are those little basement studios and garden apartments that can be found ....especially when it's family owners renting.

I have a couple of old Italian friends of my parents that own houses in the cow hollow area that would be happy to rent to a nice travel nurse that wasn't going to hang on to the rental forever. Unfortunately, SF Rent control has taken a lot of those small (and affordable) owner occupied units off the market as these elderly couples are scared of having a long term squatter they may not like having around taking up residence in their home.

SF is renter friendly to the max. Once you rent to someone, it takes an act of congress to kick them out--even when they don't pay their rent!

...Sorry, off topic, but I've spent too much time at the SF rent control board not to rant about it.

North Beach is a bit sunnier too.
