Are WA RNs Unionized?

My wife & I will be moving to Tumwater, WA the end of March 2006. My wife has been an ADN RN [TX nursing license] w/+12 yrs exp in cardiac floor & emergency cardiac care nursing. She will be getting her WA RN license via endorsement application.

Question;

  • Is WA a Union State in regards to RNs?

More questions, please;

  • Anybody have any experience with Providence ST Peters Hospital, Olympia?
  • If, any WA RNs hear of a Telemetry, or Cardiac ER nursing position available within 30 mile radius of Olympia please let us know.

Washington is not a " right to work " state, Providence RNs are unionized :) http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/06/01/19/1001oc_b2nurses001.cfm

some hospitals are unionized; some aren't. i'd go for the union, myself. the stronger the union, the better they treat their nurses.

Most of the hospitals in WA are unionized. For instance some hospitals have WSNA (WA state nurse assoc.) as their union. Other hospitals use SEIU. Western WA is a very progressive state regarding working conditions/pay/benefits.

I am a traveler, and have contacts in WA. They keep abreast of unions in various states.

I keep trying to go there, but always get sidetracked by an better, closer assignment. They have some excellent Onco/Hemo units there.
