Are the rumors true?

Hi all,

I guess this is directed to nursing students who took their prereqs at a community college and got into a university nursing program. Is the work expected of you "harder" because of it being a nursing program, or do you feel there are much higher expectations? I recently told a university employee that I made only one "B" and the rest were "A"s (I am in a two year school). She replied, "Well, we all know that community colleges are alot easier than universities, :uhoh21:

I have started an ADN program and have made all A's. I got an interview letter for UT (which is where I really wanted to go), so I would like to get some input from you before I go through the trouble of trying to get my credits (hopefully) transferred.

really only the particular U can tell you what their own particular requirements are...when my dtr was going to school they had some courses at the community college that were full or not available at university

it is true that some courses are not considered comprehensive enough

check out what you are doing, i know how frustrating it would be to spend time and money on courses that you cannot use

I don't know if its true or not but I do know that a lot of the professors I had in community college were also professors in the Universities. I doubt they change what they teach depending on how much you are paying per credit.

Most Universities accept Community College credits so the classes must be somewhat comparable.

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. I applied to several universities and CC. At one university, I was down to 300 our of 1800 applicants; however, did not get accepted. I called them and asked them to reinstate my application. Meanwhile, I was accepted into an ADN program. I got great grades in theory and was doing great in clinicals------then my mom died around Thanksgiving 2006. I had to withdraw because we're only allowed to miss two days of class, and I was grieving anyway (still am). I got back into the same ADN program the next semester and had to start ALL over with Fundamentals. Once again, I am doing well in Fundamentals. I have NOW been asked to come in for an interview with the university I have always wanted to attend. If I'm accepted to the university and finish out my ADN Fundamentals semester.....I wonder if the university will accept any credits from the actual nursing program I'm in now. For example, would I have to take Adult Assessment I again? Has anyone ever had that happen? Getting into this university would sure boost my spirits after the loss of my best friend...my mom. Sorry for such a lengthy post.

I have never done what you are asking, BUT have a friend that did it. She got accepted into Blinns ADN program and transfered to UTMB after one semester. All of her credits transfered without a problem as far as I know. When I was looking into different schools in the Houston area I talked to NHMMCCD at Kingwood and they said that they had several students leave after one or two semesters when they were accepted into a BSN program downtown.

I say go for the interview and good luck! If its what you really want then don't let anything get in the way of it!

It possible that the specific nursing classes will transfer, but there is no guarantee. It's up to the university.

I had to transfer from one school to another due to my husband being transferred and the new school did accept all of my first level classes. I was told this was not the norm. I had to keep all of my syllabi to show them what the class was about and the requirements. From what I have heard most schools will not transfer nursing classes but I would check with that specific school. I had to deal with the director of undergraduate nursing studies (who made the final decision about what would transfer), not the normal registrars office.
