Are you required to do nights when you do your practicum?

Most people that do their practicum do days and nights but I'm not sure if you can only do days. Also, can you choose where your clinicals are it seems most are in hospitals, what about nursing homes, hospice or doctor offices?

my school has day shift and evening shifts. we don't get to choose, we are placed
