Are most places requiring a certification for med/surg?

Is a certification for med/surg required where you work or necessary? How does the certification benefit you?

I've never known any place where certification was necessary for being hired. But the more competetive the market is, the more it helps.

Many employers will cover the cost of acquiring certification, might even provide group review and pay you a differential once you have achieved it. But if you achieve it on your own, it certainly can't hurt with getting hired.
