Are nurses professional?

i need our fellow nurses' opinion and what do you think our image in public?Do they think we r professional or just a doctor's assistance?

Happy nurses day:lol2:

Specializes in Health insurance nursing/ Cardiac nursing.

I fully believe that to be an RN you must have your BSN. I think not only it would be better for the profession but the public sees becoming an RN as easy due to all of these schools advertising how quickly one can become an RN. More education is never a bad thing.

Specializes in ER.

None of it means a dang thing if you can't apply what you learned in your practice.

In my opinion If you think that the extra one year of BS leadership classes that makes the difference between aN ADN and a BSN makes a difference in ones ability to be a nurse you are a joke..riddle me this , why when you look at first time pass rates for NCLEX do ADN programs have higher scores? I just finished a BSN program and honestly have not learned anything from the program that I had not allready learned from my training as a medic and years in the non medical work force.,Yes including the "nursing process"....guess what people it's not specific to nursing every profession uses the same process....even plumbers when they "assess " your toilet for the problem,,,then they identify the problem" diagnose" then they fix it "Intervention"....then last but not least they Check it "evaluate"........People look down on nurses not because they can get a degree in 2 years but because they are snotty and full of themselves; I can't figure out why because what does a nurse do that is so special?Assess patients? I'V's? Meds? in most cases they can't even intubate or give sutures things that Corpsman learn and preform independantly after less than a year of formal training And as for assessment skills the rapid trama and detailed medical assesment that an EMT-B does is much more intensive. So why do I always here nurses saying how superior they are? Oh yea they are good at paperwork and documentation , but so is your standard admin assistant:)
