Are male nursing student applicants given any preference?

Published

I was wonder if male students are given any preference for admissions into BSN or ABSN?

I would think that since there are very few males in the nursing profession, males would be given a slight preference over other applicants, would that be true?

It would be similar to how ethnic minorities are given preferences during admissions due to their status of being an ethnic minority. Since males in nursing profession are considered a minority, I would think same logic would apply.

What do you think?

You need to ask your school about it.

I know some colleges are required to take a certain number of males each semester, so you'll only be competing against other males who enter.

Other schools - like mine - do a completely blind choice. A computer randomly chooses applicants - there is a list of criteria to get into the class. Every randomly chosen applicant is placed into class, until all 50 spots are full.

Are you serious? so ANY qualified applicant (one who meets the minimum requirements) has the same chance as the one who exceed the minimum requirements?

yes, i've seen competitive nursing programs that give males more points.

many nursing programs do their admissions differently.

some do a lottery (applicants just need standard criteria), some do competitive pts sys, etc.

Would you happen to know the names of schools that do lottery and/or give males a preference?

^ dude there are too many..... U might want to check for schools around where u live because it varies greatly.

Community Colleges generally do lottery's. The ones who give male preference are few and far between.

Do your homework, call nursing program faculty at your local schools.

There is no such thing as an easy way into a public nursing program.

Lol, I'm not looking for an easy way. Just trying to work with my numbers to find out where I'm competitive. No point in spending money on schools that won't even look at my application because of my stats.
