Are there jobs in Richmond for newer nurses?

U.S.A. Virginia

I am considering relocating and was hoping to find out if there are opportunities for newer nurses to work in the hospital setting in this area. I would be relocating from Delaware if anyone has lived here can you give me any comparisons. Can you name some of the hospitals. I only know of two health systems bon secours and virginia commonwealth. What are these hospitals known for? Are thier nurses happy with thier jobs? I really want to work in the ED eventually so any advice on internships etc would be great.

Absolutely any info anyone can offer about this city would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Melody

Sometimes it is good to do your own research; then, when you have the basic information that you need you can present a more focused question. There is a website that lists all the U.S. hospitals. Please review the site (Virginia hospitals) and you will be able to locate the hospitals in Richmond, VA. The website is: http://theagapecenter.com/Hospitals/index.htm

Most likely you will be able to "clink" on the hospital link and review, for yourself, all the career/job opening links to each of the hospitals and review the positions that are currently available for nurses (new grads as well as seasoned nurses).

Since you haven't relocated from Delaware, odds are you have made no decisions on where you will reside. Try applying on line to the hospitals located at the above website. Try not only Richmond; but also the surrounding areas/hospitals. In the end, you may find that you are not in Richmond---but somewhere close. Once you have narrowed down your hospitals or better yet, have interviews set up--that would be a good time to inquire about hospitals, nurse happiness...

Things change all the time. With today's economy...an unhappy nurse today, may be a happy nurse tomorrow--or vice versa.

Good luck!

i'll give you the basic rundown:

- bon secours health system:

- hospitals in all parts of the city

- catholic-based hospital beliefs

- for pts. w/ insurance / a "community" hospital

- working on magnet status last i heard

- have a couple of friends who went to the nursing school there and liked it and work there and i haven't heard many complaints

VCU health system/MCV:

- only level one trauma center in richmond area

- teaching hospital

- serves pts with and without insurance/ a lot of indigent population is served

- magnet hospital

- have 4 different ED's

- have new nurse internships for all different departments of the hospital

- i worked there and loved it

- very intense/fast paced/city/teaching hospital atmosphere

HCA health system (CJW medical center, retreat hospital, john randolph medical center, henrico doctors hospital, etc.)

- same as bon secours, basically

- a "community" hospital/pts. w/ insurance

- hospitals all over the city

- don't know many people who work there currently, but ones who did, really regret leaving

hope that helps!
