Are there any jobs for a nurse in Hawaii?

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

My husband and I are considering moving to Hawaii. I have been searching for places to work as an RN and I think I have landed on Queens Medical Center in Oahu. I see they are offering a relocation bonus for those "in desperate need" jobs. Yet when I read this forum, it seems there are no jobs for nurses in Hawaii. Can anyone help me out with this??

Also, I have my BSN and have only been working as a nurse for 6mo.

Specializes in Critical Care.
You're in a better position than most fresh new grads because you have some experience at least. Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health center is hiring new grads and they pay well. It is a psychiatric unit.

You might want to investigate that place a little more thoroughly before recommending it.

Dear ruggster:

There's no BUT jobs.

There's no AND jobs.

There's no OR jobs.

There's just no jobs.

I'm not sure if that was a joke post and just a play on words or if it is for real.

joke post? yes. i was trying to add some humor to the thread.

play on words? yes. call me strange. i like puns.

for real? yes. for real. read the last 18 months of posts to the hawai'i forum.

you'll find the same info there, over and over again.

I am fairly new to this site so I didn't know there was a Hawaii area. I will definately check it out. As for jobs in Hawaii, I hope there are some. I'm putting all my eggs in that basket.

You know what they say about putting all your eggs in one basket. You can hope all you want, good luck with that. Hope won't find you a job here. Nobody here is being negative just for the hell of it, they speak the truth. Sorry to disappoint you.

I was just kidding of course. We want to plan a sort of family adventure and move with the kids somewhere and work there for a year or so. If Hawaii isn't it, we'll go somewhere else. I am certainly glad that I stumbled on this rather than waste my time searching for a job. I certainly have enough other things to do. Thanks all.

ruggster:

i am amazed with your last post. amazed. astonished. surprised. pleasantly surprised. you wouldn't believe how many people are not as sensible as you. you wouldn't believe how many people actually do put all their eggs in one basket, come to the islands with zero game plan, crash, burn, and go back home. you, on the other hand, actually listen. thank goodness someone does.

i was just kidding of course. *laughing* thank you for the humor. we don't get much of that here.

we want to plan a sort of family adventure please, come to hawai'i. you'll love it here! these are the nicest people in the world. when you're here on vacation, it's paradise. it's absolutely wonderful. just me personally.. i would stay away from the island of oahu. it's way too crowded. try the islands of kauai or maui.

i am certainly glad that i stumbled on this rather than waste my time searching for a job. i am also glad you stumbled here. glad we could help you.

i certainly have enough other things to do. go spend time with your family. aloha!

Thanks for the compliment. Send me your address. You do have enough room for us right. The wifey and me and 4 kiddos???? We'll even spring for supper.......

Ruggster:

I am laughing out loud! Smiling ear to ear! Enjoying your sense of humor!

We have plenty of space in our 800 sq ft condo. I'm picturing you, your wife and 1 child sleeping on the floor... that should take up 6 feet x 6 feet. We can hang 3 hammocks from the ceiling, for the other 3 kids. But where will the luggage go? Ummmm.... Bathtub! *laughing* We have room in the bathtub for your luggage. The neighbors have a garden hose, everyone can just shower outside. *laughing, laughing, laughing*

Supper? You'll buy supper? Excellent! I'm thinking ramen noodles. No, no, better yet... a can of pork-n-beans with hot dogs inside. I loved that stuff when I was a kid. *laughing* Just don't put any milk in with the pork-n-beans. Buy a gallon of milk, and you'll blow your food budget. *laughing*

Thanks for the laughter.

ruggster,

but seriously... when you read these posts, everyone seems doom-n-gloom, grumpy, maybe rude, in a bad mood, pmsing. as petunia said, "nobody here is being negative just for the hell of it, they speak the truth."

before my husband was given a permanent job here, he worked here for two weeks, on a trial basis, more or less. that was november 2008. the owner of the company paid for both of us, air fare, hotel room, rental car for two weeks. husband was deciding if he wanted to work for the owner, and vice-versa. i was checking out the island, because, heaven forbid, we actually had to uproot and move. it was the first time i had ever been here. in essence, we were on vacation for two weeks.

when we vacationed here, on maui, it was a whole different story. we didn't stay "in town" where all the locals live. we stayed in kihei, a tourist town. people were (still are) amazingly pleasant, polite, courteous. i kept asking myself, "who are these people? what's wrong with them? they are soooo nice!" we used to live in a city of 1.5 million people. it was a culture shock to see how nice people are here. i felt overwhelmed with aloha. were there rude people? oh yes! the other people on vacation were rude. the locals were respectful!

when you're on vacation, you're not competing with someone for a job. you're bringing money; you're helping to give the locals a job.

last month, we took a vacation to the island of kauai. we drove from our hotel room to a local beach. we stopped to ask a 22 y.o., "are you from here?" he said, proudly, "born and raised." we asked, "where is the best place to snorkel?" this kid was driving an old, beat up car. he wore flip-flops, old shorts and a t-shirt with holes. he didn't look like he had money, but he was filled with aloha. he probably would have driven to the snorkeling beach, which was 1 mile away, and had us follow him in our rental car. if we asked him, i think he would have driven us there. it's refreshing. people are courteous and helpful.

if you're gonna vacation, come to hawai'i. i've never been to oahu; i've heard it's crowded, and that's all i know about it. we live on maui and have vacationed to kauai. i recommend both of them.

aloha! shalom! peace! -- lisa ;-)

oahu is crowded..but I love it. I love tourists and the energy they bring.
