Are there any hard of hearing/deaf nurses

Published

Hello I hope that everyone is doing well...

I am not an nursing student yet but plan to be one within a year and a half from now... I am hard of hearing and wanted to know if there are any deaf and hard of hearing nurses or students on here or if you happen to know anyone. I just needed some advice as to what to expect and what not to expect with school and when I do become a nurse..

Thanks in advance

You may want to check out this thread which is in the Nurses with Disabilities forum. You can search for hard of hearing or deaf in individual forums by scrolling down to the bottom where you will find a search box just for that forum. I've also asked that this thread be moved to the Disabilities forum for better responses.

Me!!!! I'm basically deaf in my right ear. I've been a nurse for 2 years and still not comfortable listening to lung sounds and hearing them right. At a basic level, I can at least tell when they aren't good.

I tried an electronic stethoscope while in school, but it was so loud and picked up everything!!! I've heard cardiology stethoscopes are better than the standard stethoscopes...

i try try to do my assessments with the doctor to compare sounds and keep learning... but I've asked a coworker to double check me, and I just wxplain to the patient that I'm hard of hearing, and just want to be sure I'm not hearing anything bad...
