Are Abrazo hospitals as bad as I have heard?

U.S.A. Arizona

I have heard a lot of negative feedback about Abrazo hospitals (much more negative than positive). Im looking at some part time ER openings, specifically at Arrowhead. Can anyone help me out with a little info? Anyone work for Abrazo? What do you think?

I only know Abrazo through registry work that I did for about a year in the Phx area. I personally thought the majority of them were pretty awful and wondered why people worked full time in them. Everything just felt run down, equipment was outdated, supplies were cheap and hard to find....I just didn't like them. Arrowhead I only did some ICU shifts, which weren't bad. Arrowhead seemed to be a little better. I would recommend the Banner system, which I am currently in. In fact, watch the banner health openings because I'm leaving in a couple of weeks to start in home health, LOL!! Best of luck to you!!

I have worked Arrowhead ICU and liked it. They tend to pay a bit more than

Banner. They are not as well staffed as Banner though. No transport and no

CNAs in the ICU.

If you need a job, I would take it and look for something else if you don't

like it.

Also, I felt like just a warm body to fill a staffing spot at Arrowhead. Banner

is more employer friendly. Both hospitals have the "customer service" Press

Gainey scripts though.

I have had two personal friends who have had extremely poor experiences at Arrowhead hospital. One almost lost her life due to a med error- which was totally sloppy & preventable. Overall, Arrowhead had poor nursing care, bad staffing ratios, poor sterile technique, outdated equipment.

I would perhaps work at an Abrazo if I was a new nurse that wanted alot of different experiences. I worked at Phoenix Baptist Hospital. As another post stated...the supplies are not as readily available and it is a old hospital. There are two patients to a room (which most hospitals do these days anyways). They are focusing on patient satisfaction which is the reason why i left. I prefer to take care of the patient rather than create all kinds of "fluff" to "get the patient to come back" Plus....some of the frequent fliers we really would rather not see again. PBH gets alot of ALOC patients (to which is really alcohol intoxication) and quite a bit of drug abusers (street drugs). Now PBH is becoming a certified stroke hospital....so they are going crazy with pushing stroke info at the nurses 24/7. Abrazo has the right idea...but there is a lack of pride in the nurses. I contribute this to nurse burnout as it is a difficult place to work. But...on the up side...you do get alot of experience, good stories, nice co-workers...it just was not the place for me. I did hear Arrowhead is not bad, West Valley the administration does not support the nurses, Maryvale (aka :Scaryvale) not too great of a location, and one nurse told me Paradise Valley had even higher acuity patients than PBH.
