APU ELM Spring 2015

Nursing Students Post Graduate

So the deadline for Azusa Pacific's ELM program is just a couple days away! :nailbiting:

Any other fellow applicants out there? I was wondering if the March 1st deadline is strictly for a Spring 2015 start date, or if there's any possibility of an earlier start? January of next year just seems soooo far away.

Thank you nrincon06!! Definitely anxious to hear more info.!! :)

Hey guys I'm looking for a roommate come January for the San Diego campus. I'm looking at a 2 bdr apartments in Ocean beach starting January 1st. Please lmk if interested either here or on the fb page. Thanks

I am from APU San Diego Fall 2014 cohort 48 and I am looking for roommates to share a 2-3 bedroom house. If anyone is interested let me know. Thanks

I had an interview back in January but I had my application turned in back in December. I wouldn't worry too much quite yet about getting an interview. Since the deadline just passed, the director and admissions advisor is probably sorting through all of the app's to determine who is eligible for an interview, who isn't, etc. I would think more calls will likely start going out next week. Interview is very relaxed...more of an advising session. You have to complete a writing sample first (20 minutes or so) then you meet with an advising faculty member. I went to Monrovia campus to interview, but applied for Inland Empire. I have read on numerous posts that potential students may get a lot of information by simply calling...I even read a post where a student was told she was accepted by simply making a phone call!! :) I called a few weeks ago to ask how many applicants have applied, and since the deadline hadn't passed yet, was told that "many applications are received," but wasn't given a number???

If you applied for the IE campus, how come your interview was at the Monrovia campus?

Hi I'm currently applying for Fall 2015. Does anyone know if it's possible to change specialties before the interview? When do we have to decide on the specialty by? Will this hurt my chances of getting in?

@Jazzie, the interviews can be at different locations, whatever is more convenient distance wise, or can be done through Skype.

You won't need to decide on specialties even when you get in. You'll spend the first 18 months of the program getting your BSN/RN so the discussion of your future specialty rarely comes up. I'm almost through my first semester and we haven't touched on specialties at all.

@Emily103 - How is the first semester going? I'm starting in Spring 2015 so I'd love to hear how your first few months are going...

Hi. HOw is the first semester going?Any info will be nice!

RE: the specialty question- we pick a specialty when we do the application, so it can be changed later?

Hi

My name is Helen, and I am from cohort 48 Fall 2014. If any of you are looking for a place to live in San Diego this Spring , please send me a message through Facebook. You can find me from APU ELM SD Fall 2014. I am looking for a roommate for my 2bed/2bath apartment.

@Emily103

Hi emily,

I am starting the program in January. Since you are finishing up your first semester, are you selling your books? If so, I am interested in purchasing them please. Thank you in advance!

Dear Emily,

Hi Emily. I would like to please ask something about the APU financial aid offer. Did APU offer any sort of grant/scholarships for their nursing students, or their graduate students in general in your offer letter? Or is that something you have to individually find and apply for?

Or was your only choice through loans they offered? And no other choices?

Also, may I please ask for any financial advice you may offer for this program?

Sorry for the random financial questions, Emily, but as the program nears, I'm getting very very scared that I might drown in debt from this program, even from 1 or 2 semesters alone! Thank you for your thoughts and comfort.

If anyone else have any advice, please contribute your thoughts. Thank you! :)

Hi slasher! I can't tell you if I'm selling them yet or not as we're not entirely sure if we're gonna be using the same books in the second semester yet. No ones told us anything yet, but it would look like we're reusing some of them. I could be able to sell you a few though!

Tina, I wish I could offer more information on financial aid. I am aware that during orientation, the person in charge of student loans will come in and speak to you all for more information. That's all the information I know of regarding that subject. It would seem that most of my cohort used student loans that were given through school. One person was trying to get a loan through a different institution (so I am sure that's permitted granted you've done your research.) I'm very fortunate to have my parents helping me for my education so I didn't look deeply into that. I am sure you will be able to ask about scholarships and grants during orientation as well. I know a few people have managed to maintain their jobs in my cohort. The scheduling is very lax of course, and they have very understanding bosses who allow them to work once or twice a month/or once a week. That's been helpful to them in terms of spending money for food/gas. Wish I could be of more help!
