Appreciating those with a good balance in school

I just want to thank so many of you that have recently replied to threads about how you can have a balance in nursing school. I was accepted to the local CC program and I was really starting to worry that managing full time work, my three kids at home (although I've got an awesome husband who takes care of house stuff), nursing school and any kind of life was going to be impossible. I've read a lot of threads that just sounded like so much doom and gloom, I'm so glad to see from many people that they haven't found nursing school has taken over their life. I'm not naive enough to think that the next two years will be easy, but I know I can get through and it's the best thing I can do for myself and my family. While my organizational skills have always been good, I'm sure I'll be bumping them up to a new level, but it will all work out.

It's nice to hear this! I hope I too can find this balance! :)

You guys will! It's not easy, but I will tell you that it can be done! I have a full-time job (midnights), a home, and a hubby! Things get done, although it can take a little longer for me to do things, but it's doable. I am in my last year and graduate in December. It has not been a walk in the park by any means, but the main advice I can give is to not beat yourself up about the little things that may get neglected, involve your family in understanding what you're trying ti accomplish and tell them that you'll need their help, and all will be ok!

Wow...I needed to hear this too. I didn't know I could have a life and be a nursing student; glad that myth has been busted...it's been affecting my plans!

Glad to hear this too... I won't have many responsibilities like family, and though I plan to work (only part-time), it isn't an absolute necessity. So I know I have it much easier than many and am grateful. I was still worried that it would affect my social life quite a bit, but I suppose since other than that and exercising, I don't have much to worry about outside of school I shouldn't sweat it.

Good luck to everyone :)

YES sometimes this board can be bitter sweet, it's a great tool but at the same time it's a lot of negative and just because something is like something for one, doesn't mean it will be the same for others. I have 4 kids and a husband that is gone 5 months a year. (He got home today and I only have 4 days of class left LOL) He left right after Thanksgiving and was gone for second semester which was much more time consuming for me then first. Anyway I still didn't let NS take over my life and I still did stuff. I think I am the worlds worst studier :|
