Applying to UC - Denver for Spring 2014 UCAN Program

U.S.A. Colorado

Hello Everyone,

I started this thread for everyone applying to the University of Colorado Denver University of Colorado Accelerated Nursing program starting in January 2014. This will be my third time applying, so I'm hoping the third time is the charm! The application is due June 15th. I also had interviews for the last two cycles and saw that the interview is tentatively scheduled for July 26, 2013. Is anyone else applying this cycle? I look forward to sharing the ups and downs of the admission cycle this time around!

Hey Megan1683, I don't think you can go wrong with either program. Based on what I hear from nurses and clinical instructors as well as having worked with students who went to Regis, both programs are very well received and do a great job preparing their students for the NCLEX and clinical setting. I know you didn't want to factor in the cost, but that was the major reason why I didn't apply to Regis. At the time I was applying for nursing programs, Regis was nearly twice as expensive as CU's instate tuition. One thing Regis is better at than CU is preparing students in creating their portfolios, but a lot of faculty members at CU are more than happy to help you if you ask.

Elliot237, did they change the format of the group interview this time around?

Yeah, no interview. It was an interview exercise. I don't know how much I should say, but we had to work together with 4 other people in a group to solve a and organize a problem they gave us. There were 2 evaluators watching us which then asked us questions after we presented our answers as a group.

I think it was an interesting exercise. They basically wanted to see how we worked in groups.

Hi Everyone! Just found this blog and was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet??? I believe she said we might here by Monday? Did anyone hear that too? Also, I am in the same boat about mixed feelings about group interview. Was not feeling too good about it. Hope grade matter more!

I also heard that we may know as soon as the week of the 5th but not necessarily on the 5th. I was accepted to Regis as well. I am a little worried they won't get back to us in time! I don't want to pay $350 to Regis and then get into CU but I also don't want to say 'no' to Regis and not get into CU. What a dilemma! I hope we know ASAP! Also, I'm going to whatever school I get into regardless of price! Obviously I would prefer CU for price. Also, I've heard CU has better clinical placements because of their reputation and what not. I REALLY hope I get into CU!

I also interviewed for the 2014 UCAN program and was wondering if they said we will notified about their decision by mail, email, or both. I remember them saying it would be hard copy mail, but never got around to asking about emails. It would be awesome if they get around to it this week. Good luck everyone!

I remember her saying both email and mail. The week of the 5th sounds better since I didn't hear anything today. Good luck with deciding on Regis. Back up is always good. Hopefully you find out before having to pay!

Haha after that email yesterday, I feel like the admissions office must have been getting harrassed fairly regularly by angry students. How much is a deposit at Regis or other schools?

$350

it is due today

Yikes. That is a decent sized commitment. Regis is a good school, though.

its way more expensive too, about $30,000 more than CU

and you need health care ethics and two religious studies classes before the program begins, Regis charges $1500 for the ethics class

i am glad i got into Regis but if i have the option to i will pick CU. just for the financial part.

i'll pay regis deposit and wait and hope i got into CU, $350 isn't much in the bigger picture

Hi! I have been on the edge of my seat waiting for the accept/reject email since last week. Even though it wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear, yesterday's email did come as a bit of a relief for me. I can stop obsessively checking my email for a few days! It is too bad that some applicants are in a tricky situation deciding whether or not to pay that Regis deposit. If I were in that situation, I am not sure what I would do. The reason I am chiming in is to let you know that Metro also has a health care ethics class. I took it a few years ago, and if I remember correctly, it is only offered during the fall semester. It is probably not cheap, but the instate tuition at a public institution might save you a few bucks over taking it with Regis (if you are a Colorado resident, that is). Good luck to all of you; I hope we get good news soon.

still no word yet?! This waiting time is killing me! I should have just told myself "don't look until the 16th"...... PSSSHHHHTTTTT Yea Right!!

Has anyone heard? We should all be getting the email today, so if you did, just put me out of my misery ;-P

I know so many of us are very qualified, and a certain part of this decision is COMPLETELY out of our control, but at the end of the day knowing is better than not.
