Currently I'm a pre-nursing student working my butt off, like everyone else, to increase my chances of getting into the program. My school's BSN program is quite intensive and prestigious. I'd just like to know what each of you do,besides getting good grades, to improve your chances of being accepted. I volunteer in the ER of one of the top emergency medicine hospitals in the nation, which is a blast! What are some things you guys do? :)

Get good references! I have 5 on file (1 high school academic, 2 college academic, 1 professional, 1 personal). A good reference letter can make all the difference to a school. I also got more involved with my college. I joined my college's Phi Theta Kappa honor society. A lot of my friends who had been asked to join ended up not actually joining but I took advantage of the oppurtunity & added it to my resume. So I would add references & clubs to the list of positive things to do :)

Zoe gave you great recommendations. I've focused on making sure I get great grades in my pre-reqs. If you can get a high enough GPA, making the Dean's List at your school looks wonderful. I'm also CNA certified and started working at a hospital, as well as volunteering for a home health agency. I plan to volunteer at the tutoring center at school this semester as well, and tutor students for freshman English. Since this is the semester I am finally applying for my program, I plan to join the Student Nursing Association at my school, which also allows pre-nursing students to join. Reference letters are also ideal, I've got two professor reference letters from last semester, and plan on getting at least one more early on this semester (my last semester of pre-reqs).

As for the letters of recommendation, my program asks that we not submit any. Which really sucks, because I had letters lined up from doctors I've worked with and that would've looked good on my application :/

Zoe mentioned the letters of recommendation, but my college's BSN progran doesn't want them :/

x_factor, I love the Dean's List & tutoring ideas... I've done both of those! All of these look excellent on a resume. I wish my school let us join the SNA as prenursing!
