Applying for St Petersburg College Nursing program for Fall 2013 admission

Published

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone out there is applying to SPC's nursing program for Fall 2013 admission. I am currently finishing up A&P2 and hoping to take Microbiology over the summer.

I am so excited to finally be at this point. It's taken me awhile because I was starting from scratch and knew how VERY important my grades would be when it came time to apply. I have so many questions about the program and am both nervous and excited awaiting my letter. July is a long way away...haha!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Christine

Hi,

Yes, I applied to the fall session at SPC. I have all classes completed and I am also waiting for that letter. Good Luck!!!

Hi Christine!

I've applied for admission for Fall 2013 too. I have all my courses finished and just one B, so I'm hoping that's good enough to get in. I'd like to take the Evening track because that one goes through the summer - which means I'd be finished in December 2014.

I loved Microbiology (I took it at Gibbs with ------) so I hope you enjoy it this summer.

Good luck to you!

Julie

Hello,

I hope the letters go out quick, the waiting is a killer! Good luck to everyone. If I am accepted, I would have to do the day session, I have a 1 year old that will be in daycare and the daycare closes before class would get out. Does anyone know where clinical rotations are? I am just curious.

Sorry, I just saw these replies. I have bookmarked the page and will check it more often. I also think I just posted on your thread too. Sounds like you have an excellent chance of getting accepted. I am crossing my fingers. The waiting is driving my crazy!

------- is my professor. He is great! The class is moving at an extremely fast pace and I am studying everyday. I NEED that A desperately to maintain my GPA. Unfortunately, not having the class completed by evaluation time might knock me out of the running. I guess we will see.

I also need day classes. I have a 10 & 12 year old and can't be gone at night. I am so glad I have someone to wait with...LOL!

Hi Julie,

Did you finish mirco this Spring? I wish I could have done that. Unfortunately, I laid my classes out so that all I had left was A&P1, A&P2 and micro. Probably not the best choice since they are all prerequisites for each other. It locked up 3 semesters and forced my to take micro in the summer. I figured if I waited until Fall, I may not get in for Spring either.

I applied to the FALL 2013 Nursing program as well. I haven't heard anything yet. Hopefully they send those letters out soon. I have finished all my pre-reqs and have a GPA of 3.75. I heard the most recent GPA and lowest they accepted last semester was 3.8. I have A's in all my nursing program related classes (A&P 1,2, MICRO) except for a B in AP2.

I took --------, he is really cool and if you pay attention, you should be able to pass the class easily. His lab is a little harder. I too am going to apply for the morning class that starts at 6am. Hopefully my job will work with me and let me come in at 4pm to midnight on the days I have clinicals.

As far as clinicals, my understanding is, you get options to choose from and then they do a lottery from the candidate pool. I think it's only 30 per instructor so if you don't get your first option, make sure your second options is where you want to go.

As I found out on another thread we aren't allowed to mention professors names. I tried to delete my post but it doesn't seem to be possible.

mhasan77, good luck! I hope July 1st comes quickly for you! As of now, I am prepared to reapply for Spring admission. Truth be told there are only 96 seats available per semester, 12 of which are reserved for EAYL. That is insane! The demand far exceeds the availability.

Thanks for the advice on the clinical locations. I will definitely keep that in mind. As far as hours for clinicals, I heard those vary depending on professor and location. Most of my friends worked 12 hour shifts. Not sure if it's changed since then though.

Hey Chris,

I think the 12 hour shifts are the applicants who applied for the EAYL program. The usually require 8 hours 2 times a week but can keep you there for up to 12 hours based on needs and demands.

The 96 seats is very low depending on the demand you are right, but I have heard that some people got into the program without having finished some pre-reqs like ethics so hopefully they take the people who did finish all the pre-reqs before the people who didnt finish all them, even if they have a higher GPA.

Everything is based off the point system they use. 30 points for the pre-reqs and 40 points for GPA. So, if a person has a 4.0 and is missing ethics they would still have 67 points and would probably get the spot over someone that had all their pre-reqs but had a 3.69 GPA. That's what the advisor explained to me. Sadly, he demand is so great that you almost need have a 4.0 GPA and all pre-reqs to assure yourself a seat. The good thing is that every pool of applicants is different.

I hope you get goods news soon. I am anxious from everyone to receive their emails!
